Unemployment Benefits when leaving job in probation period

Hello all,
Well i have done the search on unemployment benefits and found lots of very useful information but couldnt find the answer to my situation, so was wondering if anyone else had a similar experience to me.

I changed jobs less than 3 months ago and the end of my probation soon, i then need to decide if i stay or go, i hate my new job honestly, its not the job i applied for after some internal restructuring, and i dont like the company so i am thinking of resigning. Of course if I resign within these 3 months I am immediatly unemployed.

Is it a good enough reason to resign that i would get unemployment benefits straight away? I have worked consistently in Switzerland for the last 4 years.

Thanks for any information!!

Since you paid in long enough, you will get money from the RAV. If you resign yourself, there will be a penalty. I do not know the details, never have been in the situation. If it is somehow possible (depending on how well you get along with your employer), it would be much better for you if they fire you instead. If you are on good terms, I am sure they could blame it on the restructuring...

No as you voluntarily leave you job, and the fact you don't like it doesn't really matter as if this was the case unemployment figures would be far higher than actual employment figures.

This is one of the risks you take when you change jobs.

If you resign you have to wait 3 months before you get any money from the RAV, you of course have to look for a job in those 3 months.

Even though the job is not the job i applied for?

They effectively split my role into 2 and put all the stuff i find interesting into the other role and filled it before i started, i am therefore left with all the boring number crunching stuff.

Thanks for the information guys!

If it's not the job you applied for, why did you take it ?

There's probably lots of "valid" reasons as why you should be entitled to unemplyoment benefit immediately but it's unlikely many of them will work. The rules are pretty much set in stone, which they have to be to avoid abuse.

Face it, it's easier to find a new job if you have a job and if you can't afford to live for 3 months without salary and before claiming unemployment you really shouldn't be thinking about quitting your job.

Any case, after 3 months and when you do qualify for unemplyoment, they aren't going to make your life too pleasant if you just gave up a job "because i didn't like it"

Hi Lisa

Sorry to hear about your job not going to plan. Have you asked your boss why the job isn't what you were told it would be? What did they have to say for themselves?

Haha, good point i should probably be more specific. I applied for a job. Sounded very cool, interesting, lots of future potential etc etc, they offered, i accepted and gave my 3 months notice.

During this 3 months they decided to split the role into 2. This split, meant that in my opinion all the interesting stuff for me was put into the other job. This decision was taken after i had accepted the job, signed the contract etc but before i started.

i dont know the penalty if you resign yourself, but if they terminate your contratc, you are entitled to benefits.

Yeah, he said a lot of the job wouldnt be able to change. SO i have to decide wether i like it or not. thing is in 3 weeks i have my probation review, up until that point i only need to give a weeks notice, after that it goes up to 3 months... not sure i can stand another 3 months of literally just staring at numbers!! its not at all the job i applied for and accepted.

I think i just need to ask HR if it would be possible for them to say they didnt want to continue with my contract after the probation period. I just hope this doesnt reflect badly somewhere else...

i'd be wary of resigning. however, you might want to try to see if you can arrange something internally to do the interesting stuff?

in the UK you might have a stab at a constructive dismissal claim, but not sure how it works in Switzerland and whether you want to go down that route.

you could also start looking for jobs now. 3 months isn't that long and quite often employers will be happy to release you earlier.

Yeah, I have already started looking, have got recruitment consultants on the case and searching the internet actively so fingers crossed! I have a strong CV so should get another job - its just finding the one I want

Thank you!!!
