Info needed : Birth Certificate for new born (India)

Dear All,

Recently, we have been blessed with a baby boy. After a few days, we received a letter from Zurich Kanton about baby's birth certificate. They are asking for a set of documents (Marraige certi, passport & ausweise), before they can issue baby's birth certi. Most of these documents can be easily arranged, except following one .
Parent's birth certificate (must not have been issued more than 6 months ago). : Attested by MEA in Delhi
After having all these documents ready, They have asked us to either submit them in Swiss Consulate , Mumbai OR hand over to Zurich Kanton (with CHF 900-. deposit). The latter process will take 3-4 months. Swiss Consulate will verify authenticity our documents. Once they find them okay, they will give "GO" to Zurich Kanton for issuing birth certificate.

I called Indian Embassy in Bern and found that they do not provide any service for this matter.

If anyone of you had gone thru this process, could you please share your experience, as to how you got your (parents') birth certificate attested from MEA? Is there any agency in India/Switzerland, that can offer such a service?

Any response would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!!

Regards,
Niki

Logically, the Indian Embassy in Bern falls under MEA(ministry of external affairs). I believe once you can arrange the birth certicates (for self and spouse), Indian embassy should be able to attest those for a fee : 18 CHF (around). Getting the birth certificates(not older than 6 months) is the hardest bit, I guess.

Re: Info needed : Birth Certificate for new born (India)

I just went through the Indian embassy in Bern... I swear I will never go to them again.

The applicants find themselves at the mercy of a few officials with inflated egos at the Embassy Office to attain basic documents. Many applications with affidavits are rejected on their whims and the office provides no explanation whatsoever for the rejection. They keep the applicants waiting for hours until their official answer is announced, "Come again"

The harassment starts the moment you steps into the embassy.

The stuck up B****h sitting on the front desk welcomes u with the question WHAT??? No courtesies, no manners what so ever!

The official, who had to attest, comes out and then the interrogation begins like you might have seen in slumdog millionaire. Audacious questions like how much money do you make, seems to be the norm.

During my visit I have seen a couple ("non-western") who was applying for a tourist visa being harassed just for their amusement.

Given a choice avoid going to Indian embassy, Bern like plague

What you write may be true - for I have news that those holding Conv. 51
Travel Documents who have to get a visa like others to visit India can do
so quickly for a fee of Chf. 250.00 under the table at one of their
Consulates in CH ??? - No supporting Docs. needed!

Hi Meebo,

You should complain about this to the MEA in India. They have a website where you should (atleast!) lodge a complaint about such unacceptable behaviour of the Indian officials in Bern. If no one says anything such behaviour will be kept up.

Good luck!
