Re: Quitting job when expecting transition from B to C permit

I came across this whilst searching, so may I ask, is the letter requirement something you knew about (was it on the list) or was it something that you found out later (perhaps from your employer)?

I ask because I'm a non-EU who was asked to apply for a C-permit after 5 years (I'm from the US) and there was no mention of this. I'd really like to get the permit, since my boss reduced my contract to a six month contract, and I'm looking for a new job. The immigration office made it sound like it was a done deal. Photo, fingerprints, signature, it will come by post...any chance it will fall through? Oh, and I'm married to a Swiss with two Swiss kids, if that makes any difference.
If you can secure a new job before you resign, there should be no issue. I switiched jobs some 5 months before moving from a B to a C (non-EU).

Re: Quitting job when expecting transition from B to C permit

Bah, was just rejected for my C permit. I was told that by marrying my Swiss husband, my "clock" for being in Switzerland was reset. So, instead of being here for five years, I've only been here for three.

Funny, as I've had the same job, moved over here with the guy I married, and I SWEAR I've been here for five years.

Guess not.

For such a conservative country, the laws are very anti-marriage.

Re: Quitting job when expecting transition from B to C permit

Yes, this would definitely count as being anti-marriage. I was anti-marriage, but wanted to protect my children, who were potentially going to be hurt by the fact that I was here on a non-EU work permit.

Who would have thought that it would have come back to bite me in the rump?
