| | Renewing B-Permit in Zurich
Hi all
Am coming up on 1 year in Switzerland. After spending 3 months changing from Kanton Aarau to Zurich, it is now about time to renew my permit (expires in September) for the first time.
What is the process for renewing the permit? When living in France (I am US citizen) it was quite easy but had to initiate it myself 3 months early.
How does it work here? Who do I contact to initiate it? I understand with a B permit it is easy, but I guess still some paperwork to fill...
Thanks

Fill up the form at your Einwonherkontrolle / Gemeinde 3 months prior to expiry date and pay the fee.

We've always been sent a form to fill in and a letter telling us what to bring with the form (passport, money, old permit etc) to our local Kreisburo (Gemeinde office) and by what date.

Same here...they send the paperwork out about 3 months ahead of the renewal date and you go to your local Gemeinde with the correct documents, fill forms, possibly get a new passport photo and pay a fee.. |

I thought id post this question here as its probably the most relevant here:
My wife is still in process of getting her work permit approved (we are on an L permit atm and she got a job and they are applying for her to work), but my permit is due for renewal in September and I want to reapply ASAP to be able to get a B permit. This helps my wife because it means she can work even if her work permit application isn't approved. My questions are:
1. My work want to wait until the normal renewal time - partly through laziness or stubbornness (ive asked many a time), but can I do it myself assuming I have my contract that is valid for the future? ie. more than a year
and 2. Do I risk anything my submitting it myself? or is it better to just wait for work to get their a into g?

How do the logistics work?
Do they hold on to your Passport / current B permit while they do the processing? My family is due to travel in the next few weeks -- just want to make sure they can take their summer holiday and return to CH when they are done!

I applied for a renewal of my credit card plastic non-EU B permit on 8th July ie exactly 3 months ahead of the expiry date, and got a renewed one by registered mail today 20th July. Validity date started on 13th July. The Gemeinde / Stadt is Wädenswil, Zürich
