sponsoring a parent or a family member

Hi, i have recently joined the forum. i live in vevey and am a house wife. i am a mother a two and am expecting again. i want to sponsor my mum, so she can come here and be at my side at the time of delivery and also provide me support emotionally and otherwise, which i am so much in need for. i have a permit B, while my husband has permit C. he has been in switzerland for almost 17 years. and is working currently, while im a house wife. i need info on how to go about sponsoring my mum. my husband is not very keen on this , so i took the matter in my own hands. can anybody help me and let me know what are the necessary procedures in this regard. and does the sponsoring ensure 100 % visa approval from the swiss embassy. please help me, thanks

Re: sponsoring a parent or a family member

Step 1: Get husbands support. Without it's a no go.

Re: sponsoring a parent or a family member

hi Lilee,
It's easier for EU citizens but what you're looking for has been discussed here before:
eg
Family Reunification (Parents)

I would suggest you pop along to your Commune and have a chat with them. They should tell you what the procedure is.

Re: sponsoring a parent or a family member

Thanks Nev, i have gone through the Family Reunification page and it contains good info for the ones wanting to bring their dependent parents or family member to switzerland for ever. i just wana invite my mum for 1 or two months and then she will be going back...she wouldn't be here to stay for long, any info regarding this would be appreciated..

Hey.. I am also a mom of 8 months old baby. I invited my mom for my delivery and she was there with me .. Now my mom is coming again on Sep 2010 to visit us.

The Procedures :

From your side :

Invitation Letter ( Signed by gemeinde)
Your Passport copy
Your Pemit copy
3 Months Salary slip
Mietvertrag ( Your apartment details )

Send all these details to your mom by post

From your mom's side

Ask her to complete the tourist visa application ( normally for 3 months)
then tell your mom to submit the completely filled visa application form her passport along with the documents you sent to the nearest swiss embassy in your home town/ country.

In a week she will get her swiss visa stamped on her passport . Good luck !

Another way is applying for a dauer visa which is valid for 1 yr. If you need PM me , I will tell you the procedures

Re: sponsoring a parent or a family member

Hoping that this thread is still live, may I please ask for some advice given our situation as follows:

- Our child is now eight months old and I need to return to work soon, but we will likely not be able to secure a childcare place for another 12 to 18 months

- My husband's mother (both dual Canadian and British citizens) has offered to come help us look after her grandson for a longer period of time - for sake of discussion, let's say seven months

Questions:

- Does she need a visa?

- If so, what kind would be appropriate? (e.g., visit, long visit D, family reunification? N.B. she doesn't intend to stay in Switzerland except to help us out with the kids until we can get childcare sorted properly)

- Does she need health insurance?

- If so, would she need to get Swiss health insurance for the duration of her seven-month stay, or just for the latter four months? (i.e., presuming that she had some other international health insurance to cover her for the first three months of her stay)

Thanks a lot in advance for any help on these topics!

No, but she may need a residence permit.

Yes but in the circumstances the E111 or whatever it is these days will be ok.

I think your question is actually "can my British mother stay in Switzerland longer than the 3 months normally allowed for tourism".

Go to your local town hall, explain the situation, and take it from there. I'd be very surprised if there was any issue with this extended stay as long as your accommodation is suitable for an extra person and you guarantee to fund her stay.

What do you mean by sponsorship? As a tourist or as an employee?

Having a visa for the USA has nothing to do with Switzerland.

Hmm. A bit like getting blood out of a stone but let's perserve.

So someone in Switzerland has agreed to support your visit as a tourist?

What is your relationship with the sponsor?

Have you applied for your visa?

yes, a good family business friends of mine, we cnt clearly understand each other because i dnt speak their language, we need inerpreter for help they not fluent in english that's why i hve to really understand evry words. so for the call of authority for approval then i think the next step is the applied visa
