Permit B by family reunion, citizenship consideration

Hello,

Year ago I've received a permit B by family reunion(i'm EU national) for 5 years as everyone else. Currently studying in UK university, coming to Switzerland 2-3 times a year for holidays.

I was told by a friend that after permit B is expired, I am able to get permit C and apply for citizenship almost instantly. I didn't believe him as as far as I know you need to be 12 years in Switzerland to become a citizen. So, is it the same(12 years) for family reunion permit B holders or I was told the truth?

Regards,
Alex.

I guess you might have problem here, you stayed outside Switzerland for study while with your B permit the maximum period to to stay outside the country within 1 year is 3 months only, which legally means your permit is void.

I could have sworn it was 6 months, perhaps a Zurich and / or non-EU thing.

Re: Permit B by family reunion, citizenship consideration

Hm, when doing the B Permit they where fully aware that I study in UK and I gave them all corresponding university documents. So I think what you are saying only affects non-EU people.

If it helps, I got Permit B by family reunion because my mother is living for many years with a swizz citizen, and couple of years ago they married, she's going to get swizz passport about next year. Maybe my friend was talking about this? That I can get a swiss citizenship because my mother becomes a swizz citizen and she is married to a swizz citizen and living here with him for many years?

Well this seems to be the relevant basic information. You don't say how old you are, which seems to be point to be taken into consideration.

I didn't mean that I had to know but certain forms of Facilitated Naturalisation need the person concerned to be under 22. That would be fine for you. However it looks as if you also have to have lived in Switzerland for five years and it isn't clear from your post how long you ahve lived here. Check the link I gave and it might be clearer to you.

look here and here

And in particular here. I think #4 under Simplified Naturalization applies to you.

No, this is not so. When overseas for education purposes the op is still considered resident in Switzerland.

I think not. The issue is that the op's residence only started a year ago and so the 5 year minimum residence period cannot be achieved before the op turns 22. Therefore the normal naturalisation process applies and the Swiss passport will only come after 12 years

Yes, that is what #4 says.

However after reading it again I wonder if he could be included in his mother's naturalization process if she applies before he turns 22.
