Any changes in your marital status, name etc. must be substantiated and informed to your Population Registry.

Re: Family name changing affect work permit B?

No, unfortunately one has to do it in person. My Einwohnerkontrolle ( aka Population or Residents Registry ) insists on it being done personally unless there is a proven medical basis for not being able to do it. They converse in EN and the whole process is about 20 mins max.

Don't know about Baden, but ask member Mrs. Doolittle - she might know better.

PS: Think of the Swedish SPAR and Navet - would they allow a proxy to register ?

Re: Family name changing affect work permit B?

If you live in Baden, I would first go to the Gemeindehouse (Commune) in Baden, take the documents you have and see what is acceptable. You may want to wait until your B permit is renewed so you don't pay a fee twice. Changes cost here too.

If you recall, the initial documentation you presented was your passport. Do you have a new passport in your married name? Are you keeping your maiden name and adding your married name?

To change your name elsewhere (bank etc) you will need to have an official document showing your new name.

You may have to contact the Kanton regarding a name change.

Re: Family name changing affect work permit B?

When I got married 4 years ago, I first had to go to the consulate/ embassy to change my passport to reflect my new married name and then I went to the OCP in Geneva where they changed my permit. They will only change your name on the permit if the passport has been modified.

Incidentally, if you were married in Switzerland, then it's my understanding that the Registry Office automatically notify the commune of this. However, it is still up to you to provide the necessary documentation, as mentioned above, to formally change the name on the documents.

Thanks a lot
I actually just renewed my B permit in Jan. of this year, can I wait till the end of this year? As this maritial status affects tax as well.

I am thinking of changing the passport, and I am going to keep my maiden mame and just adding my married name. Or can I keep my passport? I am 50% travelling.

Re: Family name changing affect work permit B?

I would think the formalities for a name change are pretty much the same from to canton. I got married in 2006 in Geneva and just added my husbands last name to mine.
The OCP could only make the change once it had been modified in my passport so I had to take the wedding certificate to the Consulate. If you got married in Switzerland, the OCP will make all the administrative changes once they change their permit. However, in Geneva, we get taxed for the whole year regardless of when in the year your marriage took place (i believe its different in other cantons). Do you have a wedding certificate which reflects your new married name?

What do you mean you get taxed for the whole year? Do you mean the tax rate remained same after married?

Re: Family name changing affect work permit B?

In case, I still kept my own name in certificate marriage. Then 2, 3 years later I want to change my name following with my partner, how do you think, is it too late or still ok, does anybody in this situation?

I can only speak for Geneva but the tax rate changes when you get married because with the two salaries, you fall into a different tax bracket and even if you marry in december 2006, you will be taxed for the whole of 2006 as married.
Until 2009, it was even fiscally disadvantegeous to be married because you paid more federal taxes. This year, the tax burden was lessened slightly.

If your husband is Swiss or Permis C, it will affect you since you will no longer be taxed at source but will do tax returns.
