| | Registering at the Gemeinde
Hi,
We are registering at the Gemeinde, with a staff member from my husband's employer to help us with the process, but I forgot to ask whether my 14 year old son will need to be present when we register.
Is anyone able to answer that for me? Obviously, the HR department is closed so I cannot ask them the question, and we are driving in from another country on that day to register at 9:00am.
I just assumed that only my husband and I needed to be present to give the necessary paperwork for our whole family. Our son will not be with us on that day. Will that cause a problem?

It was a while ago, but i'm sure that when i went, I went alone and it wasn't a problem....even if they demand to see him, they're usually pretty reasonable here so you can register yourselves than him later.
Almost certainly not an issue.
But there are better people than I on here and maybe you can even search the forum to see it thats been asked before for a 100% certain answer

It sounds like you are coming temporarily just to register? Will you have an address in Switzerland? It's difficult to register without one.
It's a good question about having children present and probably depends on the gemeinde - to be on the safe side you should go as a family if that is possible.

yeah - we have a house in Germany and the apartment we have rented in Adliswil is not available this week, so rather than pay for a hotel, we will continue to live in our house. However, I would like to go ahead and get our bank account organised, our phone, cable TV etc. organised. Also, the rep from the company is really busy, but is able to help us this Monday morning.
I just realised I had made a wild assumption that as a minor they wouldn't care too much about him and would let his parents register him.
I think I will try to register him anyway, and if not, then we will have to drive back on another day with him to register him.

Not sure here, but I thought you have to register within 8 days of entering CH with the intention to stay here. So I would guess he can just register within 8 days of actually arriving here - so no special trip required. But perhaps you can do it.

Well, if for annual permit renewals, we all, including my infant and child have to be present (it's obligatory in my canton), then don't think registration would be anything different.

Well, we are now officially registered at the Gemeinde.
We re-arranged my son's schedule so he was present, which was good because they required his signature for this card.
We handed over all our paperwork, they helped us fill in the form, and then we went back in the afternoon for the letters to say we had officially registered and our permits were being processed.
Everyone at the Gemeinde was really friendly and helpful.
Thanks for all your comments regarding my question.
