B permit expires soon (non-EU)

Hi everybody,
Hopefull, somebody outthere has some clue as to what to do.
I am a non-EU citizen. I had been working for a Swiss company for 3.5 years. However, the company went down the drain and I am currently unemployed.
My B-permit expires on 1 Sept.
My unemployment benefits run until 1 March 2009.
Would it be possible to get an extension of this B-permit for yet one more year even if I am in the process of looking for a job?
Thanks
Greetings
Patxos

Re: B permit expires soon (non-EU)

If you can justify that you are employable again, you can circumvent having to leave chf as when you put in an application to the authorities about your case, the red tape involved lasts a few months..... easily long enough to find a new job i'd think.

Not familiar with the process but know someone (in a similar situation) who stuck around for six months after permit expiration whilst the immigration decided on her fate.

Good luck

Hello, if you are currently claiming unemployment benefit and being paid it, then you can simply submit an application for your permit. You are entitled to the permit until at the earliest your right to benefit expires ie March 09. Ask you RAV about this and they will advise and should deal with the paperwork as your employer. Strange statement but the RAV effectively employs you until you find a new job. Only when the entitlement to benefit expires does your right to a permit.

Re: B permit expires soon (non-EU)

So...my B permit (non-EU) expired 30 June 2007, upon the expiration of my employment contract. In order to stay in Switzerland as a tourist for the maximum three months I recently heard that I must first leave the country for an entire month and only then return as a tourist- is this correct? If yes, should I have left on or before 30 June? Must I also fear any financial or legal consequences for being here since 30 June 2007 when I leave? (Mind you, the jails here must be very clean and well kept...)

The lease for my apartment does not expire until 31 Oct 2007 (non-negotiable) so I had hoped to stay here at least until the end of September. (This is when I have managed to find new tenants to move into the apartment and pay the hefty rental costs.)

Meanwhile, if I must go...then I must go. I am just a bit reluctant to go the 'officials' in the event they decide to escort me to the nearest train station with a one way ticket. (Which would not be the end of the world...just a bit more complicated.)

Thanks for any feedback~! Follow the sun...

I'd be tempted to wait for a letter telling me - I assume you can support yourself in these three months?

Thanks, Lob Rockster. Yes, I would be supporting myself. (I am a big fan of bread and water...sort of like 'de-toxing' - but I understand that's all a hoax.)

Do you think in order to 'remain undercover' I would have to refrain from leaving the country in the meantime for short trips? (ie. 3-4 day trip to Italy)
