Hi my question is,how long does it take to get my B permit once I register at the local gemeinde.I will want to work as soon as possible.My situation is pretty straight foward but I'm getting the pre-move jitters.I'm married to a Swiss citizen since 2001 with 3 children.My wife(bless her patriotic heart)has registered our marriage & the kids birth via the Swiss Consulate in Sydney.I have already applied & been approved for a Long Stay Visa.I'm hoping that because our marriage etc has already been registered that this will speed up the whole B permit process.
Any comments would be appreciated.

Have you asked your patriotic wife to speak to the Gemeinde you will be moving to? Chances are you'll get a far more accurate answer than what www.theinternets.com can provide...

After I married my Swiss man, it took me about 2 months to get my B permit, although I had to convert from another canton where I had a previous B permit under other circumstances, so I understand there was extra lag time. It was very straightforward, other than the cantons bickering between each other, as soon as the paperwork as all in order. As long as you prove you're married and living together they're happy to let you be a pretend Swiss person!
