Swiss wedding transcription in France

Hi all,

I'm french living in Switzerland and just got married here with my non-EU girlfriend after more than 6 months paperwork handling. We're now at the step of waiting for her permit under the familly scheme.

There is something I forgot. I realize today, by browsing the internet, that I should have asked the french authorities, prior to the wedding, a capacity of marriage (to declare to french authorities I'm going to be married abroad). Didn't know that and nobody mentionned it Switzerland side during the whole process. It seems the consequences would be that it might be more difficult to get my wedding transcripted in France (interview to check wedding validity...).

Any of you having such an experience or could help/comment on that matter ?

P.S: it looks like my wife would have to provide her birth certificate (translated, legalized and less than 6 months old...looks like some old happy paperwork sessions to happen again...) and would have had to do so even if declaring prior to marriage...

Thks,
R.

Re: Swiss wedding transcription in France

Follow-up: Just called the consulate. Not a big deal not having done the prerequisite. Simple copy of non-EU spouse birth certificate will be fine (no need to get a new one legalized).

Thks,
R.

Re: Swiss wedding transcription in France

Hi there,
I am in a similar situation as you however I have not yet formalized my relationship. I am non-EU and my partner is French and living and working in Switzerland. I have been here looking for work and not finding anything so I will have to return to my country.
We are considering "pacs" and then applying for a family reunification visa for myself. Would you recommend we do that in France or Switzerland?
Anything you suggest we should know beforehand (that you wish you knew).
Also, not sure if you would know about this but I am considering coming back here on a french vacances-travail visa while I am waiting for the family reunification visa to be completed-do you think that would cause any problems?
Sorry for the many questions...any answers would be helpful!
Thanks!
Krista
