Re: Asked for Swiss Residence permit Leaving the UK!

This is very interesting, from/to UK, I've never been asked for my permit.

I just flew Brussels to Milan today. And used my Swiss driving license as ID.....!

Re: Asked for Swiss Residence permit Leaving the UK!

Guess this is a schengen to schengen thing. I've traveled Munich -> Zurich a few times and it always freaks me out, coming off the plane at ZRH and go right outside, no checks... Need ID for checking-in the other (departing) side of course...

You must all be dead shifty looking characters, that's all I can say. Never been asked for my residence permit when leaving or returning.

Bloody hell, do I feel old

Re: Asked for Swiss Residence permit Leaving the UK!

Surely the minimum id required should be an official identity card- not a driving licence?

Re: Asked for Swiss Residence permit Leaving the UK!

i was in UK for a few weeks and i know few guys at the pass control/immigration at ZRH irport, i asked them about this and they clearly told me it is not a requirement to carry the permit with you as an EU passport holder, for non EU it would be a very good idea as it will save any hassle if there are questions
, but you should have some form of ID with you.

I also asked about the requirement to have residence permit when travelling from UK to CH- absolutly not was the reply (as an eu pass holder).

I flew from manchester recently and was also asked for residence permit - i refused as its not a requirement and the check in clerk gave some story about " first line of defence" etc for border protection (thinking above her station!).. I insisted on being shown the directive or reference that serviceair has to ensure non ch nationals but residents, have a valid permit... there isnt a reference or requirement that they can show.

I have discussed this with people who travel MAN>ZRH each week, it appears its only 1 lady asking for the permits.

Why are you making life difficult for the staff? If you had the permit then you should have just showed it and get it over with.
