You know wrong. Geographical mobility for EU citizen is not regulated by the AuG but rather the Free Movement Agreement, Annex I article 2.
So what is your advise in my matter?

Geographical freedom is classified according to your permit.
No, it is not. As an EU citizen you may live anywhere and work anywhere.

They said (in Zurich), without having any working contract you have minor chances to get a permit in Zurich. I think the same applies to any other canton in Switzerland. That means my existing B-permit will not be overwritten from another canton.
It doesn't mean that at all. Remember, you have a permit. You are not applying for one. You are changing address, that is all.

Yes, you are granted geographical freedom as a EU national but only if you have a work contract you can live from or enough cash in the bank or...
Not so. You are thinking about getting a first permit, not simply changing address on an existing one.

So, you know better than the migration office. Changing address to another canton is not so simple, is it? No requirements than only an address or rather a work contract?

Remember my permit is only valid for canton Zurich not for another one. This means I will apply for new permit in another canton. Not?

Correct. For example, when I transferred from ZH to SG I deregistered in the Kreisburo in ZH and registered in the Gemeinde in SG. Whole process took less than a minute each end. No application necessary.

And your permit is the same as before?

Re: Canton Change while being unemployed

You only have to change address regardless of what canton. This is what I have also read on the Berne website regardless of if you have work or not. Is this general practice in Suisse because some cantons want to see work contract.
Weird. I am confused!

My EU B permit was valid for all of Switzerland. Surely you are just changing residence and within your rights to do so?

The migration office said that if you already got a considerable amount of unemployment benefits your permit may be neglected in another canton.
So what now?

Can't see any laws to back that up. Have you talked to the local town all in your intended desination?

Yes, they said I shall talk to the canton whereto I want to move but generally I could move. I only want to be sure that my permit will be the same.

Re: Canton Change while being unemployed

my rav payments will be ending in a few days. But then again I will be entitled to get another 120 days of payment. Also I have a work contract for 1.3.2011. Is that sufficient for proving an income?

Indeed. The fact you have an employment contract and are "old" EU removes any uncertainty.

Have a good move .

In Geneva or in Zurich?

Do you need to change your Forum Location?

Re: Canton Change while being unemployed

The strength of this Forum is in the accumulated knowledge and many members have given you advice about moving from Zurich to Geneva for personal reasons, whilst you were unemployed and living here on a B permit. You had hoped to extend your unemployment pay through a move to Geneva.

In one of your posts you wrote
"You only have to change address regardless of what canton. This is what I have also read on the Berne website regardless of if you have work or not. Is this general practice in Suisse because some cantons want to see work contract. Weird. I am confused! "

Now, please tell us what happened. Did Geneva refuse to take you? Did Zurich refuse to release you? Did the RAV refuse to pay you? Understandably you might be very disapointed, but it would help other members if we knew the outcome of your application. Thank you

.

The Federal Council extended it to another 120 days for people over 30 in the canton of Geneva recently. This procedure is only in force between November 10 and March 11.
That's for people already in Geneva. Moving to Geneva now will not give you the extension.

Well the rules say you have to be registered with the office in Geneva between the dates listed; 1 may and not later than 31 Oct.

"Je tiens à préciser que cette mesure n’est prévue que jusqu’au 31 octobre 2010. Dès le 1er novembre 2010, le droit supplémentaire s’épuisera pour tous les assurés ayant perçu entre 400 et 520 indemnités journalières. Une éventuelle prolongation dépend exclusivement d’une décision du Conseil fédéral."

It would seem to me that you will have 1. already exhausted your payments & 2. registered after 31 Oct. Never mind that fact that your chomage is based on your "caisse de assurance". Your "caisse de assurance" in not in Geneva so I'm guessing it's not obliged to extend benefits.

But I guess you will only know when you get a decision from the ORP.
