C Permit - to be or not to be?

My B permit is shortly dure to expire after 5 years and I will move onto a C permit. Or at least that should be the case.

Can someone advise what action I need to take as I have heard three cases in the past month of fellow EU citizens being issued with another B permit for five years. Their protestations were partially successful, partially not.

Anyone got any recent experiences?

I desperately want the C permit as in the required number of years I will be looking to get Swiss Naturalisation. Five more years on a B is not really a question for me.

Help.

Having a C permit doesn't influence in any way shape or form the Swiss Naturalisation process.

Does anyone else have a view on this as my understanding contradicts the above.

I understand that I have to live in the same Gemeinder for 5/6 years and have a C permit for the same period before I can even think of applying for naturalisation.

True. But there are discussions to modify the naturalisation law: having a C permit could allow to apply after 8years instead of waiting 12y. There are even discussions that it may be a strong requirement.

Therefore ask your C permit, you never know. It could be that some strange party comes with a strange initiative as well.

today the condition is 12y residence in switzerland with a B or C permit. You have also cantonal and communal conditions (5 in same canton for example...but it changes from canton to canton).

In summary: apply to get your C permit, it's better to have it if the law changes.
