I want a cat

Hi all,

My wife has just arrived here in CH after 5 months far from each other (I arrived in July). Where she stayed in these last months, her friend had a female young cat, black and white in colour. She fell in love for the cat so I'm trying to find one for her here, with the same characteristics if possible.

The question is, where, here in Bern area, can I try to find one? I heard that there are places where you can 'adopt' a pet. Does anybody have a clue about it - address, web site etc...

Thanks

Would you be prepared to take on an older kitten Angela? I've pm'ed a member here who had cats needing good homes in the autumn - hope he gets in touch with you.

THanks Odile, yes we are open to any race and age as long as not too old. We have two now but our Lucas is terminally ill (FIP) so we will be looking for a companion to Audrey, our very hyper Siamese...
We are a bit heartbroken now but we will have to think about Audrey soon...thanks Odile!

Angela, the member I e-mailed replied that the stray kittens around his home had to be trapped and taken to his local refuge in November- and they kept one. Hope you find a lovely cat/kitten at your local refuge.

Re: I want a cat

I know someone who has found herself in a (medical, financial) fix and has no choice but to give up her two lovely cats - "Owen and Lucy, brother and sister 5 years old, very affectionate loving cats. Small sized and never get their claws out, great with dogs."

My heart breaks for these two and it would be fantastic if someone could take them in.

They're based in Chamonix but that's a logistical issue - no? Could even be a nice ski trip included

Please let me know. She has to leave first week of Feb for home and is urgently looking for someone. I wish I could take them in but one of mine will not accept another cat.

~ Nanda.

Last I knew Chamonix is in France, another country. If you want to refer to it as a logistical issue, so be it, but I'm quite sure the swiss customs or BVET would consider it an importation issue, with or without the skiing included.

Re: I want a cat

I am sorry, I didn't think of that. Guess my emotions were at play.

As far as I know though most cats in europe come with an EU passport which are also their vaccination papers. Mine certainly did.

I thought that this was all the papers you need to bring an animal across the border.

I could be wrong, but I am most interested to hear anyone who's had any experience in bringing a cat in across the border from France?

Thanks,
Nanda.

Re: I want a cat

It's not difficult to bring in cats/dogs from France. Just make sure they have their rabies shot (more than 30 days old), passport & are micro chipped. But even if they are not micro chipped (they could be tattooed) you have some time (a week? a month?) to get it done here in Switzerland.

Re: I want a cat

We recently got two british blue kittens (got the idea from a forum recently) There are websites like tutti.ch and ricardo.ch which offer Tiere for sale, not all pedigree and prices vary. I noticed also that there is an animal rescue centre next door to Zurich Zoo?? Other than that the local vet usually has a noticeboard and may know about kittens looking for a new home. Good luck they are such lovely animals and get on well with our 13 year old westie.
