Recommendations for vets in Neuchâtel and/or Biel/Bienne

Hello all,
We are looking for a reliable, trustworthy, sensitive vet in the areas of Neuchâtel and Biel/Bienne (we live between the two towns).

We have experience of vets in both towns, but are looking for someone new.

English-speaking is a plus, but French and/or German are fine for us.

We need someone who treats us as partners in looking after the health of our cats and who favours preventative medicine and not just doing something when an animal falls ill.

Home visits are essential, as is a good relationship with Bern's Tierspital whose services we rate highly.

Any recommendations to share?

Many thanks - Dave.

This may seem obvious, but have you checked the vet thread sticky at the top of the page. Seems there are numerous recommendations there.

Thanks runningdeer, yes I did check the vet thread and originally posted there but my post was deleted which was why I posted a new thread. I've just checked again and while there are many recommendations in other regions, there's nothing in the area I mention, with the exception of Smackerjack's recommendation for a vet I already know in Neuchâtel.

Dr Pilloud, Chemin de Biolet 12, Boudevilliers, 132 857 2500 was recommended to us by 2 people. Don't have any personal experience yet but they speaks English and French (not sure about German). THey might be a bit too far away for you though.

I think you will appreciate this one. A very good vet.
Now I don't know about his English at all. Never occurred to me to ask him about it.
But he always came to see the animals on the farm we lived on and I know he's in touch if not more with that hospital in Bern.

Thanks to everyone for your recommendations. belgianmum, you’re right – Boudevilliers is a little far. The same – unfortunately – applies to your recommendation in Colombier Sada. Before you get thinking that we’re lazy, I should maybe point out that one of ‘our two’ is hopelessly scared of car journeys… when he’s in a box, every minute counts.

Thanks EastEnders, Dr. Schlup has a good reputation and we spoke to his surgery this morning. We’ll be visiting three vets over the next few days. Once we have someone and are happy with what they do, I’ll be back to put a recommendation in the vet thread.

Dave, you're not the first Brooksy to be here. Thankfully, you're not the one who used to rollerblade around my office in the 90s!!!!!

Nope... In the 90s I would have been barefoot in the office flying remote controlled helium-filled airships over the desks of my colleagues just to annoy them.

You were, I guess, lucky you got the Brooks with the rollerblades.

Re: Recommendations for vets in Neuchâtel and/or Biel/Bienne

Hi,

I will be starting to work in Biel in July. Thanks for the Vet recommendations. Also, does anyone know someone who might be able to watch my parson russell terrier for 2-3 day a week while I work? Any hints would be very much appreciated.

thanks

I had a bad experience with one of the vet in Neuchatel mentioned in the threat.

I tried this one and he is very good

Thanks Moon, so did we.

Since I started this thread, we've found what seems to be our ideal vet. I'm just about to post the practice name in the vet thread.

Dave.

I can second this recommendation too. We've been using him for a couple of months now and are very happy with him.

We also had a bad experience with the same vet as Moon in Neuchatel. He didn't diagnose a problem in our one year old cat and as a result she died.

sorry guys, can I ask the name of the doc with that bad experience? maybe in the private messages, not to make it public?

I am going to bring a small kitten from Russia, so I need really good and carefull vet, who can give a very detailed check. we will also need to neutralize the poor creature, so I am looking for the best clinic to do that.

It's a cat !

Cats are highly resiliant and need very little attention

Neutering a male cat is so simple, it's 1st year vet school stuff, cost about Chf 75.-- per bollock

thank you for the reply, but it's a girl so it's not that simple... and she is really quite weak and needs good care

So about Chf 200-250.-- and the vet won't do this unnecessary procedure until the animal is fit and strong enough.

If it was a broken leg or something, this is different, but neutering is not a life threatening procedure.

People don't like to pay if is doesn't pan out for the animal at the end of the day
