Cat does not like 'Wet Food'...any recommendations

Hello
Our cat only likes the dry food 'Trocken Futter' and does not eat any tinned food. I tried him Aldi, Migro, Coop, Denner etc...all brands. Any recommendations on where to find good food liked by cats??

Re: Cat does not like 'Wet Food'...any recommendations

Our vet in Belgium recommended that we only feed our cat dry food. If you give your cat good quality dry food he will be fine. Ours lived perfectly happily for 6 years on only dry stuff.é Would probaby be OK still if he hadn't been knocked dowm and killed by a car.

Re: Cat does not like 'Wet Food'...any recommendations

Have you tried mixing some wet food with the dry food? Maybe the cat just doesn't like the texture of wet food. Over time you can then reduce how much dry food is mixed in.

When I had cats though I never gave them wet food as our vet said it was better to give them dry food (probably because it was bloody expensive and I had to buy it from the vet ).

All our cats have eaten Iams. As long as they have free access to fresh water, that is more than adequate. Hard food is also better for their teeth, and their shite doesn't stink as much.

Re: Cat does not like 'Wet Food'...any recommendations

Ha Ha that's so true. He even tried to tell me that the special food for neutered females would be even better (twice the price of normal food)
Still we've carried on the same with the new cat too.

As Paddy says as long as they have plenty of water (to stop kidney stones) dry food is much better for them, stinks less and doesn't get maggots on it when the weather gets hot.

try pet shops. Many supermarket brands are mostly cereal and water, our (totally spoiled and picky, I have to admit) cats don't want to touch them either.

It's not always just the brand of catfood but the texture (just mush, shredded, cubes etc..) or flavor (fish, beef, chicken, etc..) that a cat might not like. First figure that out, if you feel your cat must have wet food. I had a cat who only liked one wet food flavor in one brand and it ate that for years along with hard food of only one brand.
Other choices, pour a little tuna water or mix in some tuna into the wet food, then ration it completely out. I know of no cat that doesn't go gaga for tuna .

Overall, cats are extremely picky, and once hooked on one flavor, don't want anything else. Good luck!

when I grew up our cat had the opposite problem. Wouldnt touch the dry stuff and only ate the wet stuff. Be happy that your cat likes the dry stuff. Its cheaper and just as healthy.

Can we trade?

I'd love to have a cat that only eats dry food!

Mine isn't keen on wet food and what she does like, she's very picky about - she likes pieces in gravy rather than the mush stuff and she doesn't like fishy stuff. She also prefers chicken flavored dry too.

So, since I know she won't mess with the wet much, I just get some every now and again for a "treat" - she only eats maybe half anyhow and the rest gets tossed.

I go to :

http://www.fressnapf.ch/

I know they have locations around Zürich. I use to go to one in Dietikon. They sell all sorts. I feed mine high end food. As said, the cheap stuff is mostly fillers......

We started on wet food also, it was Felix. Our cats are 8 years old. Since a good 4 years we changed to Royal Canine Dry Food. Since the change they look loads healthier. It is pricey, but it really has everything they need as long as you make sure they have always water. They have different types either for indoor or outdoor cats or even fitness. We changed accordingly.Thankfully till now no need to see the vet for serious health problems

Re: Cat does not like 'Wet Food'...any recommendations

Hi, our vet said that dry food is actually better than wet food for cats because it cleans their teeth so I wouldn't be too worried if your kitty doesn't like it. However, we had the opposite problem. My kitten was raised on Royal canin sensitivity diet that is a very clean chicken & rice wet food and refused to take anything else, incl. so much recommended dry food (eventhough she's been very food-oriented all the time). Then we started mixing it with dry food (were given a trial sample of Science plan for juniors for 1 week) and the mitten loved it. I'd suggest you to mix the granules with a bit of wet food so it barely recognises the difference (adding more and more each time and then separately). Good luck!

OK...good to know that my 'health freak' kitty eats dry food which is supposed to be healthy. I will however try the other brands mentioned here..
thank you
