Update - Fidji is back home! She was sold to a woman in Besancon, France (2-3 hours from here) who took her to a vet for a routine check after a few months. the vet scanned the chip and called the rightful owners. Isn't this a happy ending? And hank God for microchips.
That's fantastic news. A bit rough on the lady who bought her though as she'd obviously got to know her too.
Good to see that the chip system works. I'm glad we forked out the chuffs to have our cat microchipped now.

Did she remember her original owners?

Re: Jack Russel puppy stolen near Basel!

yes, she did remember - they say she is a bit nervous and does not want to be alone in the room where she was stolen from, but otherwise she's fine. Was very happy to see our dogs again, they used to be good friends (which is quite a picture considering the size differences).

Bless She will get over it in time. Dogs are incredibly resilient. The owners just need to be patient and dont indulge her nervousness. All's well, ends well! I am really pleased.

Re: Jack Russel puppy stolen near Basel!

Wonderful news!

(I'm especially impressed that the chip reporting system worked so efficiently across borders. Kudos to that vet in Besançon!)

All the best to Fidgi and her family.

Re: Jack Russel puppy stolen near Basel!

Very glad to hear the happy outcome to this story. We have two Parson Russells, we'd be devastated if someone stole them - we had them both chipped as soon as we got them, good to hear the system worked well in this case.

Re: Jack Russel puppy stolen near Basel!

I'm happy the dog is back, but can't help feel sorry for the little chap.

Twice now she's been taken from a happy home, no wonder she feels a bit insecure.

Anyway, give her a tummy rub from me.

Great news!
Unfortunately with the joy of finding the dog back, they probably forget to report everything to the police.

They could politely ask the old lady details about the dog seller, which could lead to an arrest*.

*yes, very unlikely...

So at the end the thief's free with stolen goods, money, etc... The show must go on!

Re: Jack Russel puppy stolen near Basel!

No of course they told the police, but not likely that there will be any serious leads.
Don't worry about taking the dog away from another happy home, apparently the woman was living in 1-room apartment with 2 big rottweilers, which obviously is not ideal. Also we just learned that she had either intentionally or by just being careless got little Fidji pregnant some months ago (there was just one puppy who didn't survive). Does not sound like the perfect dog owner. So it's very good that she's back.

Sounds like she had a lucky escape. No wonder she is a bit wary at the moment poor little thing.

She is back where she belongs now no doubt getting all the love and attention she deserves.

Maybe certain breeds are more likely to be stolen. Could it be that young, cute dogs are easier to try and sell? I mean, that is the point in stealing the dogs, for profit?

I agree that certain breeds are more susceptible to theft. Especially younger dogs. I've seen many dogs being tied up outside shops etc and I admit that that initially created a false sense of security that I thought it was ok. Even my dog is chipped, a close shave made me think twice about doing that ever again.

Re: Jack Russel puppy stolen near Basel!

We get the Trib everyday, in Tuesday paper, they had an article where this is becoming an epidemic in the States. People are stealing dogs and ask for the ransom money or wait until the money signs come up for returning the dog. So sad it is happening here as well, maybe......
