dog tax and registration with Gemeinde

Hi all,

Hoping for a few more answers on the above. We got our little dog a few days ago and she is adorable. We now need to register with our Gemeinde.Daisy is registered with Anis and the chip ownership is being transferred to us. I just wondered if the dog tax is a standard price for all kantons or can it differ?

We live in Oetwil am see so we are in the Kanton of Zurich. We will also be doing puppy classes, which Im really looking forward to.

It does vary, and, if I remember correctly, the lion's share of it is charged by the Gemeinde.

Darcy, has ANIS agreed to do the registration change without going through your vet?

With most of my dogs they did just that - the old owner (a shelter) sent in the form, easy peasy. But with my last dog (adopted after the new TschV came into affect), the transfer from the shelter was not enough - rather I also had to go to my vet to have the new owner details entered in. Once ANIS had both halves they then updated my guy's file.

Seemed a pretty cumbersome way to go about it, but there you go. That was 2 years ago, so things may have changed... (again)...

Also, your Gemeinde might ask for the confirmation letter from ANIS when you register your dog there. Mine did (as well as proof of liability insurance), but I understand not all do.

And congrats on the new addition! Wishing you and your four-footed friend all the best.

Re: dog tax and registration with Gemeinde

Dog tax and licences vary a lot between Kantons. I have two dogs from the Tierheim and with each I contacted Anis myself and sent in the Tierheim purchase agreement, and then just popped into the local Gemeinde and told them we had a new dog, they sorted out the rest. We have just adopted a third dog from the Tierheim and here in Kanton Fribourg we have to have a special licence to own more than two adult dogs! 5 pages to fill in....... and another large bill at the end! Don't forget you will have to do the Sachkundeausweiss course if this is your first dog, but your local dog club should be able to give you more information.

Hope it's going well with the pup, our latest is just 5 months, a Border Collie/Appenzell and a right handful, but being kept in check by his Step Mum and Dad, also Border Collie crosses!

Re: dog tax and registration with Gemeinde

Hi,

Thanks guys! I got a contract from the breeder with the chip number on it.I will contact Anis myself to see what I do next. The breeder had only had this litter by accident,so I'm not sure she knew all the requirements.

Before I go to the Gemeinde I want to make sure I have done everything right!
Daisy is settling in well! Toilet training is going well and she is sleeping through the night really well!

If its from a breeder, she would have chipped the puppies and ANIS will have her details in their database. She will have had you to fill in a form for the change of ownership, which she should have sent in herself authorising the change.

You should get the confirmation from ANIS in 3-4 weeks (if I remember correctly) with the confirmation that the dog officially belongs to you and a YELLOW sticker in the letter which contains your dog's chip number where you have to paste it in Page 3 of its Pet passport under "REGISTRIERUNGSBESTATIGUNG DER DATENBANK".
