HELP Need a vet who knows about UK papers

Hi there,

I am looking for someone who knows about getting two dogs paperwork sorted to go to England. I know it is possible if there is some sort of correct process done, and that it takes 6 months. I just want to have it done in case we plan to move out back home. One dog is from the states and one is from Germany and I bought him here. I have been using the University vet, but don't know if they know anything about that. Please if anyone has any information it would be most helpful. Even if you can't recommend a vet but have done the process before, please pm me. Thanks, and have a great day.

All of mine have received their UK passports from the vet below. They have done all the necessary test and vaccinations.

Andreas Hagen Dr med vet

8134 Adliswil
Tel: (044) 709-0666
Fax: (044) 709-0661

Vet and receptionist speak excellent English. 24 hour emergency service.

Do either of your dogs have a pet passport? If they do and the rabies vaccinations are all up to date and they have had the blood test done, then you shouldn't need any other paperwork, they also must have the microchip done. The only thing you should need after that is the tick and wormer treatment done by a vet and marked in the passport no less than 24 hours and no more than 48 hours before you travel to the uk. If you have any questions or need to check about any other paperwork you could contact DEFRA in the UK who should be able to inform you about what is needed. http://www.defra.gov.uk/wildlife-pet...ts/pet-owners/

If they don't have a passport, you would need to get one done, this requires a microchip to be done if it hasn't already, then a rabies vaccine given. After 2 weeks the vet has to do a blood test to check whether the vaccine has worked, which has to be sent off to a certified laboratory and marked in the passport. If the vaccine hasn't worked (unusual) another has to be given and another blood test done, if the vaccine worked, you then have to wait 6 months from the date of the vaccine to be able to enter the UK.

I assume this is still the same and hasn't changed, our GSD got her passport in the UK and this is how it worked at the time (6 years ago).

As BB2 says, but you have to have a Rabies blood test done within 24 hours (or maybe 48?) of entering the UK. I drove a dog over last year for a friend and all papers and pet passport were checked at the ferry terminal in France and I drove straight through Dover customs.

Thank you all SO much. This is basically all the info I needed in a few posts! As I was planning to drive the little fellows over as well, since if we went we would be moving, and also I don't think their little chihuahua hearts could take being under the plane. They are first class dogs only Thanks again!

Sorry, I should have said that if you drive to the UK (what we've always done, don't know how it works if you fly), the papers, microchip and passport are all checked at whatever terminal you choose to use, whether it be ferry or tunnel on the french side. We've always used the channel tunnel and you have to get everything checked at a special pets check in before you go through to the normal check in area.
