Re: Missing cat - Bruderholz, Basel [Yay! Now FOUND]

You lost hope and no one could blame you, who would expect to see your cat return after 5 weeks?

This is a wonderful news, I am so happy for you. Give her lots of cuddles from ALL of us!

Re: Missing cat - Bruderholz, Basel [Yay! Now FOUND]

This IS absolutely fantastic news!! Cats are indeed amazing (survivalist) creatures.

I also agree it might be good to take her to the vet in the next week or so to make sure she is not (too) severely dehydrated or anything (the ticks are perhaps a bit worrisome-dependent on how long they have been feasting). When my friend's cat got locked in a shed for several days (and they too had mostly given up hope), the vet recommended that if he did make it home for her to just drop in so he could make sure he was alright. Peace of mind and all. So so happy for you though.

Woke up with a sore head this am (too much party last night), heard a noise, made the usual 'Hello cat' noises. Maud jumped on the bed.

She's uber-thin, and has something like paint on her, so I'm guessing she's been living in a shed/garage for the last 5 weeks.

All you who said she could still come home, I apologise for doubting you. some stories do have happy endings.

(The kittens all have 'WTF?' faces. They'd got used to not being beaten. Maud has remembered though ;-)
Thats an incredible story, so pleased Maud is safe at home

What a marvellous way to cure a hangover!
Hope she recovers from her trauma quickly, and that she stays close to home for the foreseeable.
Lovely story to read on a Sunday afternoon, and I'm so glad I came in for the happy end.

Re: Missing cat - Bruderholz, Basel [Yay! Now FOUND]

And there I was about to tell the story about Jimbo's 8 months away from home saga!!! (Remember, i said don't give up....!!)

What great news!! You have a wee happiness tear from Geneva!!!

When I read your post about her coming home I actually punched the
air!!! And shouted YES!!! My neighbours think I am the odd foreigner anyway....

Happy, happy, happy.....!!!!!!

Strange, when those buggers are crying for food, waking us up at all hours of the morning and night - snuffling around, scratching us, bringing us "presents" etc. we curse them. But when they are not there we miss them so much....

Enjoy!!! I'm doing a little dance in my seat!! A bit of Tom Jones comes to mind - Pussycat, pussycat I love you....!!!

Re: Missing cat - Bruderholz, Basel [Yay! Now FOUND]

Your story about Jimbo was what came to mind when Maud reappeared She ran to greet me when I came in from work so she's definitely pleased to be home.

Seems to have a bit of an upset stomach, but I'm thinking that's probably down to having a good diet again - I've got some sensitive stomach biscuits, but if she's not better in a few days I think the vet will be a definite call. (Haven't taken her so far because she seems okay, we've got rid of the ticks, and she finds going there so stressful that I'd like to give her a few days of peace and quiet before bundling her into a cage & car)

Thank you again *everyone for all your happy responses to M's reappearance.

Re: Missing cat - Bruderholz, Basel [Yay! Now FOUND]

Things like this need a tiny web cam embedded in the cat's head.

Bit like their puce in the shoulder....

Once Maud has settled back - I shall tell my weird Jimmy story!!!

One question - did she smell of old lady horrible perfume?

Re: Missing cat - Bruderholz, Basel [Yay! Now FOUND]

Quick update:

Mr MTC took Maud to the vet today - we'd given it a few days to allow her to settle in as she finds vet visits very stressful.

The vet was surprised that she'd come home after so long, although he said if she was trapped in a cellar then there are more mice and dripping taps than people realise. Nevertheless, she has lost 800g (about 25% of her bodyweight), is dehydrated and has a fever. She has to stay in until at least Monday - they've put her on a drip, are giving her high-energy food and have done blood tests to check for internal organ damage/infection.

Poor old Maud - being at the vets is her worst thing (aside from being lost, I guess).

Patsycat - tell me your story!!

I am so glad you took her in. This really will be the best thing for her right now. And maybe she will like vets after this--since they will, I am sure, take very good care of her.

Re: Missing cat - Bruderholz, Basel [Yay! Now FOUND]

OK, to cut the story short. Jimmy went out on a dark December night 3 years ago - and never came home. I put flyers up all over the place, no luck. so, as you do - I just presumed that he was dead. Cried like a baby for weeks...

Roll on August of the next year. I am sitting at my computer and look out the window, there he was! So I called him and the tail went up in the air and he ran towards the building. He came in - and what was cute was his sister (who wasn't really his real sister) just ran up and sniffed him and washed his face.

All was well, he was in good condition and seemed healthy. Later on that day, there was a commotion under my window. This woman was ranting and raving about me stealing her cat and that she was going to the police etc. I just closed the window.

It seemed the woman who had taken him in thought that he was the cat of one of her neighbours who had moved about a year previously. They even put threatening letters in my mailbox etc. But I stood my ground. They wanted me to take him to the vet to check his chip (why they had not done this in the previous 8 months, don't know). I said no, he was my cat.

The "owner" of the cat eventually came round with pictures of her lost cat. It's true, they did look very alike. But her cat was only 3 when it went missing and Jimbo was seven. Jimmy has a broken front tooth, and a black bottom lip. They eventually believed me.

The only problem i had was that for a couple of months he was living between my place and the other woman's. I guess he was a bit confused!!

I was upset (and happy!!) at the time. But I guess I should be grateful that she took such good care of him. She pops by every couple of months to see how he is.

I still can't believe he was living about 300 metres from me. She never let him out - or he would have come home. She must have left a window open that August morning.

So there it is, the story of the miracle cat!!

I hope Maud will be feeling better soon.

Re: Missing cat - Bruderholz, Basel [Yay! Now FOUND]

So, Maud was basically fine, bad worms, allergies from eating goodness knows what, but 4 days later and 500CHF lighter she's home and fine.

Unfortunately now Rory has vanished...which could be a coincidence or could be that someone really doesn't like our cats. *sigh.

Or maybe Rory saw how much attention Maud was getting and wanted a piece of the action

In all seriousness though, I hope Rory comes home soon and your family is complete again. Good luck!

Yes - I think Rory wanted some special attention so he locked himself in a garage for 24 hours

Honestly, keeping track of 4 cats is madness. What's funny is I worried myself to death when the older 2 were kittens (the most notable occasion being when I made Mr MTC put chicken wire along all egress points of the garden - the cats took one look, scaled it and vanished). With the younger two, as long as I see them for breakfast and dinner it's all good.

Re: Missing cat - Bruderholz, Basel [Yay! Now FOUND]

Gosh, I remember when i had 4 cats and the occasional lodger. All of them had their own personality and I had to cope with that!!!

I must admit, i used an odd soft kick around dinner time!!!

Please don't call me an animal batterer! But they are great in the Winter to keep your feet warm.

Jimmy, now it's Summer, goes out until about 5 or 6 in the morning. Then comes home and actually paws my face to check up if I am still alive. I have small scratch marks on my nose. If that doesn't work he licks my eyebrows.

Then he goes to sleep till mid-afternoon.

Love em!!!
