| | A 4th dog?
Can anyone give me a reason to say no.....
He's a 10 year old Basset whose owner had to give him up for health reasons so now he is homeless.
We have three Bassets, all rescues, all females (spayed).
What are the chances of anyone wanting to give a 10 year old dog a home....

Nope, I can't give you any reason to not say yes, and it already sounds like this is a done deal. I hope he has a fantastic rest of his years with you | The following 6 users would like to thank Slaphead for this useful post:

Honey, at this point, one more won't make such a difference... Maybe hubby will find some relief to not be surround by so many girls and have a boy on his side!
He will be very lucky to be part of this big family with such a loving mummy like you! | The following 7 users would like to thank Nil for this useful post:

If I only had stable perm place I would have loved to have a dog. Don't say "no" if your mind already says "yes" and try to intoduce him to the rest of his pals | The following 4 users would like to thank jacek for this useful post:

I can not see any reason for you not to give this lovely pensioner a forever home.
A friend of mine gave a home to a retriever a couple of weeks ago and she has 6 dogs already!!! I spend the other day there and it was lovely to see them all getting along..
Yes, Yes Yes ...............

The dog is in a Tierheim in Schaffhausen. on the website it says they really want him to be placed with someone who understands bassets. They are a special breed and can be very stubborn. http://www.schweizerfamilie.ch/tiere...r-quirin-59849

Well, it seems like fate. A needed Father's Day present, another male presence and you have the necessary understanding of the breed. It all fits!

I wish we could do a get together where I could admire your 4 x 4 legs members doing things together. Please post pics of the family
How will the other 3 take the new addition, how do the bassets behave in this respect? This is a completely unknown breed for me | This user would like to thank Cris1973 for this useful post:

This is a completely unknown breed for me | | | | | There is always an adustment period when introducing a new dog regardless of the breed and much depends on the new dog's history. All our dogs are rescues, so there were issues. None were in a home where they were loved and cared for by an owner so there was a lot of work to be done. It appears this male Basset, Quirin, had just one very devoted owner, they went everywhere together, and then she became very ill and this is why he is in need of new home.
We have asked how he interacts with other dogs but I can imagine our girls might be very interested in him because he is a male. Our 3 get along very well now, in fact, watching them together makes us laugh a lot. I am convinced that dogs need canine companions. I never thought at the time that we had just our first dog that she was ever unhappy alone, though she was never completely alone as we had the parrot first who called the dog "Abby Flabby" but she is the kind of dog who very happy to go to find a quiet place to sleep but loves to play especially with the youngest dog, who also insists on sharing a bed with her.

actually whilst in the vet some days ago, I saw this dog with his owner, it was a Basset but at that time I didn´t have a clue. I thought it was one of the funniest dogs I have ever seen, his/her solid paws (and super big "hands"), I was tempted to ask him to give me 5! . Then I was very rudely staring at him because I found him soooo adorable, and he was looking from time to time, like "I don´t care", "Ok, I am used to be looked at", "what do you want from me!". Also I was impressed by his size, I would have expected to be smaller, in fact because I thought it was a kind of Teckel (long body, short legs) - how ignorant, I know . He really made me smile.
I bet you get some interesting comments / looks when you walk your 3 ladies. Just imagine how proud will be Quirin when walking with his new friends.
Hope everything will go well with the adoption and the integration should you go for it.
