I'm so sorry to hear this, Prof. Taratonga.

May you be at peace, knowing you have given your cat a very good life.

You both will be in our thoughts today.

She is good. She wants me to open the shower many times per day so she can drink the water on the floor. I tried to show her the fresh water in her bowl, she doesn't care. She wants the shower's water.

She ever rush into the shower with me and doesn't care to get wet.

Re: My cat's last trip

Sorry to hear it Nil. I'm not a pet-owner so I can't totally understand, but loss is loss, and it usually hurts.

Talk about your emotions. Cry when you need to. Honour your memories (sometimes a ritual helps). Hold your loved ones close. Exercise, eat and sleep well.

Re: My cat's last trip

It's over. "Muus" died just an hour ago in my arms, peacefully. I'm sad but it was the right thing to do as he was almost 20 years old. He had a good life the last 12years with me, was never sick and enjoyed his life with my other cats. Thanks to the vets who really try to make you comfortable when you have to say goodbye to your loved pets and thank you all for your lovely comments.

Sad but also heart-warming to see how you are taking this. Muus was a lucky cat and I'm thinking of you, this must have been a very hard day for you.

I'm really sorry for your cat but i bet she had a wonderful life with you and you with her. Treasure every memory and remember that she will play again with mice and little balls like a kitten.

No matter how much you try and gear yourself up for their end it still is THE most horrible thing to have to go through. Be strong and remember the good times.

Re: My cat's last trip

Well, I think this is it.

Toutoune is really not feeling well. She peed and pooped on the living room floor. Vomitted 4 times the morning and has trouble walking.

She can't walk, has trouble to sit, lay down and stand. I'm crying because I am scared of what it means. Hubby can't leave work because he has work up his ears. A friend will come over this afternoon to take are of my son while I will go to see the vet with Toutoune.

Tomorrow I am going to meet our new family member and I thought it would be an addition, but it looks like it will be a replacement.

Toutoune has been with me since 12 years, she has been everywhere I lived.

How am I suppose to prepare my 3 years old that her best friend is leaving us and won't come back? I am not even sure that I am ready myself yet. I thought Toutoune was 14 but it turned out she is 17. I got into contact with the friend I got her from. 17 is pretty much it.

Even if the vet gives her a med, it will just postpone the pain of losing her. I am not sure if it is the thing to do. Maybe I should just accept that she has a great life, she gave me all she could and that's it.

Sorry, I have to stop.

Re: My cat's last trip

So sorry to hear Nil. It's horrible when we face the loss of a loved pet and although you know you have given her a great life, it can seem little comfort at the time. I am sure that when time heals you will be able to look back at all the happy memories.

Re: My cat's last trip

Look at it another way -- seventeen great years of being loved and spoiled, the last twelve by you. Celebrate the good times and fun that you had together, spend the rest of the day spoiling her, maybe taking a few photos, then call the vet.

If today is 'the day', you may ask if the vet can come to your house rather than you having to take your cat into the office. Much less stressful for you and Toutoune, and a much easier way to say goodbye.

Very, very sorry to hear about your little friend.

Re: My cat's last trip

I sent you a pm Nil.

If your daughter is in any way like my son, but ready for a lot of very practical questions. Where's Toutoune now? Where is her body? What is the vet doing with it? Will she come back later? If we get another cat and call her Toutoune, she'll be back, right?

It's difficult to deal with all those questions when you are grief-stricken yourself, and you don't have ready-made answers... Kids deal with death in their own way, very differently from us. My son was rather puzzled at seeing me crying. The concept of never seing our pet again didn't mean anything for him.

I'm not a religious person, so an answer like 'she's with God' was not possible... And explaining what death is is such a task!

Best of luck to you in those difficult times *hugs*
