It’s unlawful to own Only One guinea pig…

…in Switzerland, because they’re very social and would get unbearably lonely. But what if you buy two, and one dies of old age? “The owner would have to purchase a new, probably younger guinea pig as a companion to the ageing survivor, whose eventual death would force the purchase of yet another guinea pig, locking the owner into an endless cycle of guinea pig purchases in order to adhere to Swiss law.” But wait! You can rent one: (http://www.spiegel.de/international/...787336,00.html)

Seems daft - but saves the endless vicious circle. You have 2, one dies. So you get a 'new' one, and then the other one dies, and so on, for ever and ever ..

...same is true for birdies. An escaped canary from somewhere flew in our window last year, so now we have two canaries, and for more colour, two Gouldian finches.

My grandson`s friend had 2 rabbits, and they froze solid last winter.

The mother had heard (or seen .. with tunnel vision?) rabbits in outdoor hutches ..... so she allowed them to have rabbits.

Reminds me of the old gardener, who's had the same spade for over 50yrs. ..... he's only had to change the blade twice, and replace the handle three times.

Our rabbits lived in an outdoor hutch all year round and one lived to be 7 and the other 9 years old. You just had to go out a couple of times a day to thaw out their water bottles when it was really cold. (and make sure they have lots of hay.

They were dwarf rabbits too so theoretically not as hardy as the big ones.

My hamster looks almost like this. But it's the most awful critter ever: bites furiously as soon as we put a finger in the cage
