Re: Put my Dog to sleep this AM :(

I am so so sorry for your loss.

Take comfort that Touka is now over the rainbow bridge with her friends, all healthy again, endless green grass to run around and play all day, with lotsa chew toys and no one to tell her "no".

If it helps, write a letter to her about how much she meant to you and burn it. It helped me a little when I lost my furry best friend of 18 years.

Big hugs.

Re: Put my Dog to sleep this AM :(

I have posted this before; especially comforting if you have kids...

So sorry for your loss.

http://www.petloss.com/rainbowbridge.htm
-------

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I posted a few days ago about my beautiful baby girl Touka having lymphosarcoma and got lots of love and support for both of us. Thank you so much to everyone.

Touka went to sleep this AM. She will be greatly missed

Re: Put my Dog to sleep this AM :(

I'm very sorry, I know how hard it is. And your home must be so empty..
But it was the right thing to do.
And I know you cannot replace Touka, but when i've lost a pet before, I've always tried to get another one as soon as possible. It helps to have someone to keep you busy again.

I'm so sorry. My eyes are a little wet too and I'm going to give my pup a little hug after I finish this. You did the best for Touka...when you're ready you will find another pup to love and to love you...never quite the same but still, so worth it.

Re: Put my Dog to sleep this AM :(

As your picture was taken last Saturday, your beloved Touka was still able to enjoy the outdoors and hiking with you until the very end. That she did not spend much time sick, in pain, and housebound is a blessing itself, I think. She was a beautiful dog!

I am so very sorry for your loss.

EDIT: What a gorgeous photo of the two of you that you have to frame and put at your bedside!

Poor you, it is really like losing a beloved family member. But I'm sure there is a dog heaven with green grass, lots of yummy food, toys, play mates, and no pain.

Re: Put my Dog to sleep this AM :(

I'm so very sorry, Sue.

Our furry friends leave indelible pawprints on our hearts; your Touka will always be with you in spirit.

Cherish the memories - and as you work your way through this difficult time, celebrate all that you two shared, celebrate a life truly well-lived. And take comfort knowing that you did the right thing at the right time.

What a beautiful girl Touka was - that photo shows the depth of the bond you shared.

May you be at peace, as Touka is.

Re: Put my Dog to sleep this AM :(

I have been away for the past two weeks, thus have only just seen your post about your beloved Touka - what a beautiful girl she was. It is so, so difficult when we have to say goodbye to a dear friend; think of the good times you shared - Touka must have had a wonderful life with you. My thoughts are with you.

Re: Put my Dog to sleep this AM :(

Just saw this, too. Having had to put a friend of 13 years to sleep a few years ago, I understand. *hugs* It's as painful as losing a family member so don't worry about the grieving. If you need a friend to talk to or whatever, PM me.

Re: Put my Dog to sleep this AM :(

I feel so sorry for you - I can feel your pain, as so many of us who have been through the same thing, can.
I remember taking my first dog to the vet to be put down. My son who was still very young, insisted on coming with us. He had never experienced a death in the family and was puzzled as to why we were all choking back tears.
When we got to the vets and went in to see our beautiful dog, who had been with my son since the day he was born, the reality hit my son like a steam train.
He was totally inconsolable. It was one of the toughest days of my entire life - it still chokes me to think back to it now.
My advice to you - when you are ready, get another dog - and love that one as much as you did Touka.
I`m really sorry.
