We were with the same company. I have a pretty good idea of who is the relocation agency. Push and push harder, really.

Do you know who will receive you in Basel? If so, I hope you won't get a certain German lady which was very useless and ineffective, if you want more details, pm me.

For the appartment, we were suppose to be in a certain building and we manage to get to an other place a bit further from Novartis but it was more mportant to have our cat with us.

If they keep saying no, ask them to provide you a temporary place for your cat (at their expenses) that should help pushing them a bit more.
I also relocated with Novartis and if you want to PM me I can recommend a really nice agent who looked after me and speaks better English than I do! She works with the relocation agency that Novartis use.

Back-off ZuriBoi. Daisy is mine.

Join the queue.
Looks like I'm third in the queue then

OP,honestly, if you get stuck and both Traubert and Prof can't help for whatever reason, we'd look after her. The cat we fostered for 6 months is about to go home and it would sure help with missing him.

When are you looking to need Daisy looked after? Dates would help.
last update from the relocation company: there is nothing they can do for me, i need to speak directly with the HR dept!

this is getting ridiculous!

I'm planning to move to Basel on the 7th of March and god knows how long we would take to find a nice apt...definitely we don't want to be under pressure while we look for one, but staying w/o Daisy for 3 months is definitely out of the question.

This is absolutely true. People on EF can't resist pictures of cute cats.

Here's a picture of *my* Daisy in the sink.

Awwwwwww.

Skip the HR department. They don't really have the authorization to do anything out of the ordinary on their own, and the contact you have in the HR department is probably someone administrative rather than someone managerial. They coordinate the offer letters and logistics, but can't make decisions.

I would very politely approach your hiring manager (the person who actually signed your job offer and who you'll be working for), explain your situation, and ask them to approach HR. A request directly from you to HR is likely to be met with a textbook answer, but if the same request comes from the business, it is much more likely to receive a positive response. My experience is that managers are typically very sympathetic to requests like this, and provided what you're asking for is reasonable, they'll do their best to accomodate you.

You might suggest that you could be flexible about start dates if waiting an additional week or two to start meant that a pet-friendly apartment became available.

I'd be suspicious. It sounds like your other half might not know the difference between a toilet and a sink. He understands that you don't have a urinal at home, right?

guys, thank you for all your advice and your offers!
I'm going to contact my next manager and I hope she will talk to the HR, perhaps I can mention that people in the same situation got a different accommodation...I will keep you updated!

Daisy is also very flattered to see people queuing to take care of her!

That was my first thought but apparently it's because it lived in the toilet. He also apparently ate a canary with the name of Radged Spladge or something like that. My man has a weird sense of humour

I can look after Daisy from that date until mid April. She'll meet Miro who is a real gent. If anything, Daisy will be returned to you more gracious and svelte. He's an indoor cat.

Re: our pet can't stay with us for a while...help!

good news!
I spoke with the HR and they have agreed that I'm entitled to a place where Daisy is welcome so our little furry baby is going to stay with us!
but thank you for all your support and all your offers of cat-sitting!

Especially they indeed have temporary appartments who accept pets. Sometimes, relocations companies are just being lazy.
I did the same the 2 times I have been relocated and when negotiating to rent my actual flat. All of them gave up and let me had my 2 cats, but I knew w/o them, I was not moving, period.

Congratulations with the good news for Daisy!
