My cat needs a new home :(

Hello friends.

In a few weeks my girlfriend is moving to Switzerland with me. It would be perfect if wasnt that my girl has alergyc to cats and my small and lovely friend must leave

He is a male and not even 1 year old, very calm and shy at the begining (he will hide wherever he can and you would not notice his presence) but he gets charming and more confident in a few days.

He loves company, play around you and be close to people.

I would like to ask you for help as we need to find a new sweet home for him.
I will give to the new family all the necesary to take care of him. Bathroom, toys, travel-bag, etc... everything I have.

I will post more pictures later.
Thank you very much for your help.

Re: My cat needs a new home :(

Sorry, I can't take him, I'm in a no pets apartment.

Is he neutered, and is he an indoor cat or goes outside?

He is so cute - I'd pick HIM over the GF. Hope you find a good home for him. But do give more detail please, indoor/outdoor- castrated, vaccinations, chip, etc, etc.

Hi creisi, you must be very upset at having to give up your beautiful little cat. If I was in a position to take him I would, however, I wish you the best of luck in finding a loving new home for him.

Re: My cat needs a new home :(

Hi OP,

I'm sorry for your situation.
Could you possibly strike a deal with the new owners so that you can visit your cat from time to time? This might ease your and your cat's feelings when your girlfriend comes and cat leaves for his new home.

How about asking around in your neighborhood? That way he'd still be close by

I would never dump my cat for making a human being's life cheaper (hasn't the OP's gf enough dough for her own damn flat?).

Btw. she could do desensibilisation if he were important to her.

There is also Chinese medicine, which puts the body/spirit back into balance and thus, eliminating the inbalances which caused the allergies.

Yup. It might be asking a bit much, but how about sending her a couple cat hairs in an envelope so that she can start the desensibilsation process before coming to Switzerland?

Call me crazy, but I'd give it a try

Re: My cat needs a new home :(

Another thought. Has your girlfriend had longer term exposure to cats? I ask, because a house guest at Christmas was allergic to cats and suffered from sniffles and watery eyes for the first couple of days but appeared to develop immunity over ten days and, by the end of his visit, suffered no ill effects at all.

She could end up in hospital depending on the severity of her allergies if OP tried this before desensibilisation, though....

Re: My cat needs a new home :(

If she is really allergic, she cannot ever stay in this flat anyway unless it would be completely restaured (painting included), also after years after the cat's departure.

But luckily there are hospitals for antiallergic treatment in Europe. We call that normal standard.

Re: My cat needs a new home :(

Try asking your girlfriend to think about trying anti-histamines or seeing the doctor before you send your poor cat packing. If she thinks as much of you as you must think of her to choose her over your beautiful cat, she should at least consider it.
I would never have got rid of any of my cats for a man, there must be a way around your problem.

Re: My cat needs a new home :(

Apparently (that's what they told me at the CHUV), if you start desensibilisation you can cope with having a cat at home.

You have to take anti-histamine pills anyway for the first three months, and after that you can tolerate a cat at home.

Re: My cat needs a new home :(

While I agree with (almost) everything posted so far, about being able to desensitize yourself from (many) cat allergies and about the fact that cats and pets in general should be lifelong companions...I also know that this is a very difficult decision. Many times, the whole story is not told online.

OP, please be sure this is best not only for you but also for the cat. And anyone considering this precious kitty, please don't take this responsibility lightly. Please make it a lifelong home for him...

Re: My cat needs a new home :(

I am really sorry you are in this situation. The picture of your cat and your description is perfect! If this would be in 12 months time I would send you a PM with more details abut us but OH and I decided to wait another year as we are planning on going on holiday for four weeks in December and we would not want to leave our new cat behind for so long even though there are lots of cat sitters on our street.

Best of luck.
