Experienced handler for pet sitting

Hello,

We are looking for an experienced dog handler to pet sit our dog for one week at the end of August. He is a German Shepherd, male, 6 years old.

We believe he will be more comfortable at our home but he has shown that if he feels comfortable with a person he can stay at their place as well.
Sadly, our current guest family is not available...and believe you me, they are hard to come by.

He can be aggressive towards dogs&people if not properly handled, so it is best if the family has no other pets and walks must be limited to leash
only basis. He is very quiet and well behaved at home as well as a proper gentleman during city walks, shopping and coffee breaks

And he loves car rides!

Re: Experienced handler for pet sitting

Liajoe - I have recently taken the SKN theory course (I received my certificate in the mail today in fact!) to start the road to being a legally qualified "dog sitter" here in Switzerland.

I have some experience with dogs - but am cautious, as you ask for an experienced "handler", what you mean exactly. Although my family had dogs as I was growing up, and I have one of my own (really, I should say "had" as she is in Florida with my mother - long story), I wouldn't call myself a "handler", that sounds to me more like someone who has experience training / showing dogs.

I'd love to meet you and your dog, and find out a bit more as well as let you know a bit more about me, to see if I can be of help.

Re: Experienced handler for pet sitting

Hello Peg A,

and congratulations on your receiving your SKN certificate
Also thank you for your reply, really appreciate it!

Actually, in guide dog training a handler is the blind person after he graduates with his guide dog.
It means that he is now capable of "handling" his guide dog, i.e. work & communicate with him effectively.

It took me a while to decide between experienced handler and dog sitter for that reason. I'm looking for a
person who is confident enough to handle Tuscan should he decide to act in an dominant/aggressive manner,
towards other dogs or people, i.e when people visit, he must be reassured that it is ok for them to enter the house.

What I'm trying to say is that although he is a companion dog and I can go anywhere with him, he has had experience
in SCH sport and is not the super friendly, social, Lab or Golden that you can let to roam around in free runs with no "handling & control".

Would love to meet up though so you can meet us and create a better picture for yourself
