Thinking about your family today, especially your daughter.

The loss of our four-footed friends is always heartbreaking, even more so when completely unexpected. If you think it might help, the Blue Cross (in the UK) offer a pet bereavement support line; their trained volunteers are there to listen, to offer counseling and support.

Again, my heartfelt sympathies to you and to the entire family.

I'm so very sorry!!!

I didn't want to read this thread because it still breaks my heart to hear this stuff, even though it's been over a year since my little dog died.

Sending you huge huge hugs.

Not sure how old your daughter is, but the Rainbow Bridge is comforting for children.

So sorry for your loss.

http://www.petloss.com/rainbowbridge.htm
-------

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Our Cazimir had a heart attack at the kennel while we are in Spain. At first they told us he had a stomach torsion and had to operate on him but the it turned out it was his heart. You have no idea what we were going through. My daughter and her friend are flying back tomorrow morning please keep your fingers crossed for him and us, it looks very serious and we pray that he's going to make it. He is only 3 years old! I won't be online much but please pray for us and think about us. thank you community!

I would like to thank each and every one of you for all the kind words and your sympathy. It's hard being at home and he is not here. My daughter is a little better but it will take some time. The house is just so empty, especially since he was so big and now you can leave all the doors open, because nobody is going to steal any food or going through the garbage ....

Thank you so much for sharing this story with us. My daughter and I read it and it made us cry, but it was a good cry, not the angry kind of screaming and crying that went on the first day. We are about to go to the kennel and collect his things, that is going to be tough again.

We miss him. And I will have to stop looking at pictures. Where can one buy a nice urn? We basically went through every possible webside and the ones we like are not available in 4 ltrs which is what we need. There is a nice one with the stairway to heaven but only small sizes.

I don't know, I have 2 departed friends to house. A friend's step-father is a chippie who makes beautiful furniture so I'm seriously considering commissioning him to make something for me

Please don't feel you have to stop looking at pictures; take all the time you need to celebrate his life. There is no timescale to the grieving process - do whatever feels right for you, and for your family.

As for a large urn... googling around brings up this in Germany, including some 4 liter choices:
http://www.tierurnen.info/index.php?...2-5-Liter.html

But have you spoken to the Tierkrematorium? I have always ordered my urns direct from them - I would think they could help.

All the best to you and the family.

Have you visited www.cremadog.ch site? I used them when I lost my little Susie three years ago. They have many urns, including two 3.5 litre marble models.

Thank you for the lovely pics of Cazimir.

Thanks for the input. What we did was we went to a normal undertaker and looked at the urns - Cazi's dimensions are definitely human-like - and actually found the one we were looking for, blue with a stairway to Heaven painted on. The lady there said she had never sold an urn for an animal and at first, when we explained our request, she didn't quite know what to make of us and rather hesitatingly said"Well, yes, we do have urns..." But when we left, after telling her the sad story, she was basically our best friend. So now my daughter has something she can look at and feel his presence. And when daughteris happy, mom is happy too.

The pictures are lovely. I am sure you have a lot of wonderful memories. I think pictures help keep those memories alive. Right now it might be painful to look at them but in time I think you will be glad you have them to look at it.

I know someone who also lost their dog while on holiday. I was the emergency
contact listed with the kennel. I remember when they telephoned me.

Losing a dog so young and so suddenly is tragic. I hope in time you will feel ready to get another dog and maybe this will help fill the void left with the loss of Cazimir. When my aunt's dog passed away, she went almost immediately to the shelter and chose another dog. Some said she should have waited. "Wait for what" she asked? And how did she choose the dog? To this day she maintains it was the only dog who took any notice of her when she walked by.

Pictures are important. Perhaps difficult to watch at the beginning, but a source of joy after the difficult time. I still watch to the pictures of my dog, from the first we took when she was a few months old to the last one and I spend that time smiling because it's just a full memory of love
