Re: R.I.P Cazimir - welcome Ebby!

I'm afraid I don't have any experience with cherry eye - but if you are looking for additional information I can recommend Dr Richter, the veterinary opthalmologist at the Spezialistenklinik (not too far from you, in Hünenberg):

http://www.spezialistenklinik.ch/spe...halmologie.htm

Dr Richter has a write-up on cherry eye (Nickhaut Erkrankung) on her website:

All fingers and paws crossed for little Ebby.

Thanks a lot for this information. We already have an appointment with a veterinary opthalmologist for the operation on Tuesday. But good to know there is someone that close.

At least she is in good spirits and keeps scaring the turtle even though she knows she is not supposed to.

Hooligan and the Belltie have asked me to tell Ebby that they have both their paws and dewclaws crossed for her.

Do keep us updated...

All the best for tomorrow.

Thank you all, everything went well, she went in at 8.00 and came out at 12.00 all awake and as good as new. The only downside was that she didn't have anything to eat today and given her usual appetite she must be really starving by now, poor girl has to wait for another hour.

So glad that everything went well. All Ebby needs now is lots of cuddles from her family, and a little bite to eat when permitted!

So pleased to hear that all went well - what a trooper Ebby is!

Hope the post-op recovery goes smoothly. (Do you have to restrict her exercise or keep her quiet?)

Methinks someone might appreciate a medicinal sausage or two for dinner tonight.

Re: R.I.P Cazimir - welcome Ebby!

Hi There, i wondered if you could tell me where you got Ebby from? I'm looking at getting a dog myself and wondered where / how you went about it.
Such a gorgeous dog, i'm sure she'll make you very happy :-)

Re: R.I.P Cazimir - welcome Ebby!

Dougall - there are dozens of threads already on how and where to get a dog in Switzerland. Are you specifically looking for a Great Dane?

To get you started browsing older posts, a few relevant threads...

Adopting a rescue is discussed here:
Adopting a pet from a Rescue Centre

And finding a reputable breeder here:
How to spot a reputable breeder

But before you even start to look for rescues or breeders, if you are a first time dog owner (as in you have not had a dog registered in your name in Switzerland) you must take the Sachkundenachweis (SKN) theory course. This is mandatory under the federal animal welfare law (TSchV), and must be done BEFORE you acquire a dog. Reputable breeders and rescues will want to see your course certificate before seriously considering your application to buy/adopt one of their dogs.

You will then be required to take the SKN practical course within the first year of getting your dog.

You can read more about the courses here:
http://www.bvet.admin.ch/tsp/02222/index.html?lang=de

And in the many, many threads on this subject. Search for SKN.

And of course you'll need to learn all the laws surrounding dog ownership in Switzerland. As you might guess, there are regulations here that one would likely not expect in other countries.

But let's keep this thread for admiring the beautiful Ebby as she grows...

Well Dougall, everything melocollie said!

And I got her from a registered breeder who has an excellent reputation where the dogs are part of the family and not kept in a barn just to multiply. Even now they keep calling, asking how Ebby is doing and we send them pictures. We looked around for a while - starting almost immediately after Cazimir passed away. We also looked at some puppies and decided against one of them for some reason or other. So it wasn't as if we went and got the next best dog somebody offered.

I would have loved to adopt one from a shelter, but since my daughter is the one in charge mostly, she did not feel ready for it because she does not have so much dog experience yet. But we always said that when Ebby is all settled in we might take one poor fella from the shelter too.

Went for my first check up after the operation and the doc said everything looked very good. Didn't quite like her fumbling around my eye but I found out you have to play the drama queen and they give you lots of goodies
