Great news for Marco! Odile, I am amazed by your story

Just out of curiosity, Merrylegs, what made you follow Marco whereabouts (for a year?). I find it very sweet of you, I am wondering what lead you to that...

Hi Cris, I visit the website of the local SPA regularly cos I just love dogs! I remember Marco so well because of his age. I thought it such a pity when I saw his pic for the first time on the site last year, that a dog who was nearly 18 years old was in the Shelter. Another "success" story, was the adoption of a dog who had been in the Shelter for six years since he was a pup. Not surprsingly, he needed very careful handling, and many people, including myself, thought he would never be adopted, but a human angel came along and gave him a home! Some dogs are adopted very quickly, whilst others have to wait a little longer. The SPA does a great job.

Re: Cross Your Paws for Marco!

So happy for Marco! As Merrylegs already knows(!), we got our lovely 12 year old dog (Sniff, now called Sid) from LVPA Ardon last year. I just started voluntary work there last week (one morning/week). They are great people, so kind to the dogs and the place is spotless. They currently have over 30 beautiful dogs looking for a home.....my husband is terrified I will bring them all home. Anyone in a position to get a dog, please consider a rescue dog.....

Re: Cross Your Paws for Marco!

irishgirl, could you do me a big favour and ask them at Ardon about Marco's history. As written above, he is the exact twin of our Gatsby, that was also found by the roadside in the Valais. I'd be really interested to know more about him. Thanks if you can do this. And well done you for helping as a volunteer- hope you enjoy it as much as the dogs

Re: Cross Your Paws for Marco!

I'm also curious to know if Marco and Gatsby could be related.

Re: Cross Your Paws for Marco!

Dinosaur about posting pictures- but many on EF have met our Gatsby and can vouch for the exact match.

Re: Cross Your Paws for Marco!

Will try to find out Marco's background on Thursday. I did ask about him last week, he has indeed been adopted and is now living on a farm! Will be back as soon as I have any info.

Re: Cross Your Paws for Marco!

Update, I didn't learn much yet as there wasn't much time for talking this morning but I do know that Marco is from Valais, he is 12 and he was in the shelter for about 6 - 8 months. He was brought to the shelter because his owner, an elderly gentleman became very ill and couldn't look after him any more. However, it wasn't clear (to me) how long that gentleman had owned Marco, I got the impression it wasn't all his life. Sorry I can't be more informative yet but I will continue to try to find out more.
By the way, there is an open day coming up at the shelter, all are welcome and a 'grillade' was mentioned! I think it takes place 30 September, I will confirm and post full details next Thursday

Re: Cross Your Paws for Marco!

Thank you so much for trying - if you can get more info, I'd be really interested. Trying to find out if he is one of Gatsbys pups or great-pups, as the resemblance is uncanny.

Re: Cross Your Paws for Marco!

I find the age difference perplexing, because I calculated that Marco was 17 when he arrived in the SPA last year. Thanks for checking Irishgirl.
