looking for people to form group training for SKN

Hi,
I live in Wadenswil/Horgen area and know a couple of trainers who would do English private training sessions for the SKN compulsory practical course but not in groups. ( private costs more!)

if I can find a few people to form a group then both dogs and owners can have a little social session with much reduced price too!

timewise, i think any time from now between it gets too cold perhaps?
i am also availible during day and evening too.

please reply this lead or pp me if you are interested?

Re: looking for people to form group training for SKN

Hello!
I'm in Basel, but if the training sessions were on the weekend I would definitely be interested.

Also, do you know of any good English trainers for the Theory course? It isn't my first dog, but it will be my first dog in Switzerland and the Cantonal Vet told me that my previous dog-owner ship in the US doesn't count. <Sigh>

Hi
your previous dog ownership in the US of course count. I did reseach on that topic reading carefully on Swiss pet laws etc. Any previous ownership of dog counts!!
you do not have to listen to your vet. he is not accurately right.
I had my dog adopted from zurich tierheim and they also said my previous ownership of dog in China counted! they didn't require me to take theory test!!

1Snow, this is not true everywhere; a foreigner is required to ask the cantonal Veterinäramt whether his/her proof of previous dog ownership is acceptable, or not - as Jules has done. Some of my colleagues have had their proof accepted, some have been denied. From the BVet website, the FAQ on the SKN (Click on 'Haufige Fragen' on the right side:

http://www.bvet.admin.ch/tsp/02222/index.html?lang=de

Roughly translated:

Must a dog owners, who earlier owned a dog abroad and now in has taken on a dog for the first time in Switzerland, take the SKN theory course?

If one can show that one owned a dog before 1. Sept 2008, one must only take the practical course. What form of proof is acceptable is not defined. One must contact the cantonal Veterinarämt, to determine what they will accept as proof (for instance, confirmation from the previous place of residence.)

FYI, Two of my colleagues who have been denied came from the UK. The problem seemed to be that there was no official registration or dog license. One of my UK friends was accepted, however, because she had a UK pet passport issued prior to 2008. MY US colleage was accepted - because she has a dog license from her town. These were in three different cantons.

From what I hear, each cantonal veterinary office might look at it differently.

But regardless of what one is required to do, it is strongly recommended that every dog owner new to Switzerland take the theory course - because the laws and social responsibilities here in Switzerland are very different from many of our home countries. It's a chance to learn what is expected - before we make mistakes.

ETA:

And just to stress: there is no test for either the practical or theory courses. Course attendance is all that is required.
