Ok, this might sound cruel and I may get some heat...

Does the cat have a collar? If so, a name tag with address? No? Take it to the local pound as it is straying right on in.

Yes, everybody seems to be finding it amusing except for me! I think it's like a Dutch oven - hideous when you're the victim of it, but hilarious when you hear it's happened to someone else.

Schadenfreude. You bastards.

Re: Cat repellent

Thanks for the offer, Angela. I'll see if the lemon etc works first. I went to a band practice tonight and the note had disappeared off the door when I left. WHY? F***cking leave it there!

There's now a pot of rosemary next to the door, plus the whole area has been sprinkled with lemon juice and pepper. Plus I left the note on the front door emploring my neighbours not to let cats in, as one keeps leaving "little presents" by my door. Hopefully with all of these factors combined...

You could add a citronella plant - then you're all set for cold winter nights (hot citronella tea and lasagna/pizza/pasta etc.)

If you decide to put up another note, they keep disappearing and the culprit remains unknown, contact your landlord and tell him about the cat situation so that he can put an "official" note up in the building/send it to cat owners living there.

Ahhh I didn't realise it was inside!
My house is full of cats... Poo is bad enough, finding a dead or almost dead mouse on the way to the cave is horrible and once the cat wee weed on my baby's pushchair I quite like having them around though. If the lemon or other herbal stuff doesn't work buy a dog teddy or something - like a scarecrow a scarecat. Might work...

My landlady is my downstairs neighbour and is allergic to animals. There are no pets allowed in my flat, at least. It's a very small building, three families and me. It may be that one of the families was allowed to have a cat, but if they think that stopping by during the day and cleaning it up is sufficient, then they are very much mistaken.

Yuck. I've never had such a problem with cats before. I hope they really, really hate lemon juice, pepper and rosemary. Might fit a mini electric fence around the carpeted area.

Re: Cat repellent

I used this the other day. i am not so sure whether this will work.
I had to do sth as they shitted on my both mats right outside my doors.

Hate those 3 fat cats hanging around my balcony.
When I first saw one of them, I told my hubby that I saw a tiger. It was huge.

Re: Cat repellent

From what I've read, lavender is hit-or-miss because some cats like it, and some hate it.

If you're not permitted a pet at all, it is highly doubtful that whomever that cat belongs to is supposed to be allowing it in and out through the main door anyhow. I'd definitely mention it to your landlord / landlady, it is possible your note was taken down before s/he saw it, and so remains unaware.

I'd also slip a note in EVERY neighbor's mailbox individually, letting them know about the problem and asking them to please either NOT let the cat in themselves or to help your efforts in keeping the cat from using your doorway as it's litter box.

Just make sure you do it in such a way that the note can only be removed by the intended recipient...like in an envelope that can be tossed to the back of the secure part of the box. Otherwise the person who keeps removing your notes on doors can just fish out your private note from everyone else's box.

Re: Cat repellent

Apparently the cat belongs to a neighbour who lived there before the landlady moved in (and it's the landlady's husband who is allergic). He came down to speak to me today and said he's taking the cat to the vet to discuss what they can do about it, and he's making every effort to keep the cat away from my door. I have covered the place with pepper which seemed to work last night. We'll see what happens...
