Who wants to borrow my Kittens in December? ;)

My hubby just found out he is going to be in Korea for work over Christmas. I would like to join him, but need to find some cat lovers who would like to experience or practice being cat owners for about a month.

Any takers? The kittens are named Radish and Onion (but in Swiss German: Radisli and Zwiebeli) and are well behaved and Adorable. Radisli is pictured below...

The borrowing period would be from the middle of December until Jan.9 or so. We live in Zurich, but could travel to bring the kitties to you.

If you're not traveling over christmas, this is the perfect chance to enjoy kittens without worrying about them turning into cats.

cheers!

Re: Who wants to borrow my Kittens in December? ;)

That is one very cute very adorable little kitty! Love the pose, and backdrop Lovely photo!
And that twinkle in the eyes!

But ...... our Katsi will not appreciate being usurped by little charmers.

Excellent idea, nice for those wanting an excercise in cat ownership - like being Granny and able to hand the kids back to the parents.

Hope it works out well and you get to join your hubby over Christmas.

For anyone interested in your offer, you probably need to post more information, like are they indoor or outdoor cats?, get along with other cats, dogs, other animals?, come with food/other supplies or not?, etc.

...or replace the word "kittens" with "pussies"....that should atract some attention.

But for no reason though....bad suggestion

They're kittens, so all of the above is irrelevant.

A good point.

Being serious - when anyone is undertaking care of another person's pet for an extended period - either for a fee or for free, it is wise to draw up an agreement. Be clear about expectations, be clear about responsibilities - especially financial.

(What if the kitty needs to see the vet while in the care of a someone else - has the owner granted the carer the right to authorize treatment? And if so, are there any limits placed on that authority? Which vet does the owner want the kittens to see, does the carer have any leeway in an after-hours emergency? How will the bill be paid, and by whom? Etc. Etc. Etc.)

If the animal is microchipped, it is often prudent to place a temporary note with ANIS giving the carer's contact details as well - just in case. You simply list the person as a temporary Halter, with relevant dates. Pets in new situations have been known to go walkabout.

I know this sounds over the top - but better safe than sorry. Putting something in writing is best for all concerned, most importantly the kittens.

I'd be worried my kids would get too attached to them, too!

Re: Who wants to borrow my Kittens in December? ;)

Juslaaik ..... it begins to become complicated huh?

Lots of responsibility involved - from both sides.

I know I wouldn`t be too keen to hand out one of my babies to strangers, while I go on holiday, unless I knew them well, and had water-tight agreements. Even so ....I don`t think I could......given all the ideas above, of what could happen, what might happen.

Another thought. What a way to "get rid of" an unwanted pet? Just never collect it.

Re: Who wants to borrow my Kittens in December? ;)

So many good ideas... thank you for all of your input! It did cross my mind about not getting them back, that would make me soooooooo sad. But a contract, that seems a bit over the top. hmm.... we'll see.

These kittens are used to children, but as one of you said, they're kittens, so wouldn't have toooo much trouble adjusting to a dog etc. Though I would be careful with a big dog, sometimestheyare toooo loving.

Radish and Onion are 14 weeks old, when we leave they would be a bit older...

hmmm....

Re: Who wants to borrow my Kittens in December? ;)

I forgot:

because they are so young, they are exclusively indoor cats

and of course, I would bring all supplies (litter food etc) with me and would pay for any possible emergency vet visits...

Re: Who wants to borrow my Kittens in December? ;)

Hi,

Just a thought but maybe they would be best having someone to come in and feed them and spend some time with them a couple times a day rather than uproot them from their home at such a young age?

Hope you get it sorted.

Best wishes
Darcy

Re: Who wants to borrow my Kittens in December? ;)

If you haven't found anyone else yet, I would really like to look over your kittens from Dec- Jan. Recently moved here from Los Angeles with my hubby and I've been looking to adopt a dog or cat, but I think it'd be good to petsit before making that lifetime commitment.

I would love to do it too, I miss not having animals around but I don't think my housemates would be too happy - they don't like animals
