Emergency Vet - Need some Help!!

Hi everyone,

My cat is sick and I need to call the emergency vet. The problem is, the message service is in Swiss-German and I am not writing down the right number (I know my numbers in High German and am at best, a beginner). I have already called 3 wrong numbers and people are starting to yell.

Odd request I know - but would someone be willing to call the vet answering service and PM me the number? He really needs to go today, my Swiss speaking hubby is out of town and I can't get a hold of him.

Vet number 044 919 0075

If someone could help I would really appreciate it. Thanks!!!

Thanks for posting - I actually was all over this website and

1. they did have my vet's emergency number listed (which is his mobile number)

and

2. they don't have any emergency vets listed for the kanton of Zurich which I found to be strange....and unhelpful.

I have an appt in an hour, he's at his office waiting for someone else to come in right now.

Re: Emergency Vet - Need some Help!!

try the Tierspital Zürich. they are a bit annoying at first so ignore that bit. they always have a list of emergency vets. i hope it all turns out well.

Re: Emergency Vet - Need some Help!!

Hope your cat is OK...

I know this is too late for you, but as an FYI for anyone with an off hours emergency in the greater Zürich area:

If you can't get hold of your regular vet or his/her cover vet, as Blowfish mentions, call the Tierspital (University of Zürich Klinik für Kleintiermedizin). Although they don't keep regular clinic hours evenings and weekends, they are always available in an emergency. If you can't call, and if it really is a life or death situation, just go to the clinic - there is an intercom at the front door to page the on call vet.

Winterthurerstrasse 260
CH-8057 Zürich
Tel: +41 (044) 635 81 11

When you call after hours, you will get a recording telling you to first contact your usual vet, but keep listening - the recording will also tell you which key to press to be connected to the on-call vet for emergencies. Generally the person who answers the phone after hours is a vet, not a receptionist, and will speak some English. (Actually, most vets at the Tierspital are fluent in several languages.)

There is an out of hours charge added to the regular fees, and one is supposed to pay when picking up your pet. However, each time I've been there for a post midnight emergency no clerical staff were on hand to process payments so they just sent me an invoice later.

---
And, taken from the Tierschutz website, here are some emergency clinics in other areas:

Re: Emergency Vet - Need some Help!!

Thanks guys for all of your help, I really appreciate it.

Our cat is doing OK, turns out what we rushed him to the vet for was no biggie, it was something else making him sick. The vet thinks he has a viral infection in his throat and that's why he wasn't eating. He's been given some pain killers and is on antibiotics - he's on the mend and slowly starting to eat again. Totally loving the extra attention!!
