Re: CT scan on dog - anyone had one?

Thought i would give you a little update!

Merv is now 10.2kg!! We are reducing his steroids VERY slowly as his red blood cells are still only barely in normal ranges. Whites still high so he's still on antibiotics and we cant shake the runny nose but overall he is doing really well. He even came for a run with me tonight!

I am almost too scared to ask but how are you all doing? I am hoping that no news has been good news.

Re: CT scan on dog - anyone had one?

Thank you so much for asking!

He's doing really well thank you. He is now 11 kg and all his blood results are a normal ranges. So we are in the process of reducing medication slowly and steadily. It's been four months!

Unfortunately in the meantime my other dog has been diagnosed with lung cancer we found out purely by accident when we went and had an X-ray because we thought she had swallowed one of the kids toys.

if all this is not a salutary lesson to people about the expense and commitment one needs to have to look after a dog probably I don't know what is!

Both dogs are good. She is not enjoying the warm weather BUT we did just have a lovely holiday in France in a treehouse which they both definitely enjoyed!

He lost a little weight recently but I think he is becoming more active and we had reduced from 3 meals a day. Back to 3 and hoping they will both have an uneventful summer from here in.

I wanted to update. Merv is still doing well and remains over 11kg and despite an intensive (and VERY expensive *8f a day) drug regime, he is happy and with us still. We did however, lose our darling Moog on the 23rd Feb. her lung tumours must have been secondary to spleen cancer and after a short illness she was PTS in my arms. We spent a few precious hours with her and our vet was, and continues to be both committed, sensible and compassionate to the end. I held her and talked to her till she was gone and Merv came with us which I hope helped him to understand what happened. He's been sad but not too bad and today we welcomed an unwanted farm kitten to our family, Beau. My heart has broken but we are all smiling again a little today. Run free Moog.

I'm so very sorry that you have lost Moog, we all understand the heartbreak you have been through.

But I am very happy that Beau has found his way to you. I firmly believe that the best tribute we can pay to the much-loved pets we have lost is to open our hearts and home to another soul in need.

And I am very, very happy to hear that Merv continues to do well. Great news!

Wishing you all the very best.

Thank you so much for keeping us up to date about Merv, I was only the other day wondering how he was doing. Such good news to hear he is still with us.

Condolences to you all on your loss, such a hard time.

Re: CT scan on dog - anyone had one?

I just wanted to let those of you following this know that Merv went to sleep today for the last time.

We went by the lake for one last 'walk' (I just carried him) and to look at the ducks. Merv was sleepy but as soon as we sat on his favourite beach he wanted to try and get up. He took one last paddle then we said goodbye.

We are so blessed you found your forever home with us. Sleep tight Smurf x

Re: CT scan on dog - anyone had one?

I am so very sorry, MaybeSkint.

I am glad you had such a lovely last day together. These will be memories to treasure.

From your pics it is obvious that Merv was so very much loved, and that he returned that love many fold.

Wishing you strength at this difficult time - and I hope you can find a measure of comfort and peace, knowing that Merv had such a wonderful life with you.

Loved beyond all measure.

We were blessed with 3 days to say our goodbyes. I've spelt with him on my chest. The kids have been able to be part of it. We are pooch sitting 2 dogs for half term and i am so thankful as this flat would be so obviously empty otherwise.

Re: CT scan on dog - anyone had one?

Update again!

Could this be our happy ending...

This Saturday we brought home Buddy. A toy poodle rescued from southern Italy by L'arche de Kira. i thought those of you who followed and supported might like to hear. We are in love again and know it will eventually lead to heartache once more but life without a dog is life with a hole in it for me...

Oh, I am so very happy for you MaybeSkint!

With that twinkle in his eye, Buddy looks quite the charmer!

I have always thought that the best tribute to those we have lost is to open our hearts and homes again to another little lost soul - wishing you and Buddy and the whole family much happiness.
