In the past few days you might have seen farmers out cutting and drying their hay... so time for a reminder to dog owners:
Many farmers say that there has been a sharp increase in the the damage dog owners do.
A hay field is critical to a farmer's livelihood - silage is grown to feed the livestock.
One should not allow one's dog to run in a hay field or any farm field without the farmer's permission - but especially now as the hay has been cut and is drying prior to baling. Urinating on the crop or leaving faeces causes contamination.
If you have not lived 'auf dem Land' before you might not realize that the field is in production.
We need to up our game, fellow dog owners, and respect the farmers' private property. When crossing a hay field, keep your dog under control - and keep to the path.
