I wish to doG this hadn't happened - but I am glad that Glowjupiter posted it.

We have seen a very worrying escalation in attacks against pets - kittens beheaded, cats shot, dogs poisoned, dogs maimed. These evil people seem to be acting more and more brazen.

We all need to be on our guard to protect our pets. We also need to put pressure on the authorities to take these crimes seriously and, if by some miracle the perpetrator is caught, to actually prosecute him/her.

Kuscheljustiz be damned, time to take the gloves off.

Re: Kittens beheaded...!!!

There are similar crazy/bad things happening in the UK too. On the Horse and Hound website recently one horse was attacked and sexually assaulted, subsequently died and a pony was burnt and also subsequently died.

What is wrong with these people! They are worse than rabid dogs (who have no choice in their actions) so if caught should be put down for the safety of everyone and everything else.

While I can only react with disgust at this, I can give you a feel good thing to offset the bad feeling.

http://wgntv.com/2015/08/31/alabama-...escue-kittens/

The two kittens in this video were adopted by a family with 2 girls who where watching from the shoreline. Hopefully a very happy ending.

There are a lot of people who really care.

I just don't get it.

I feel rotten for having scolded my little guy for acting like a hooligan in town today and have spent the whole evening loving him after he has been giving me the 'I feel sorry for myself look'. How do people do such barbaric things like this and still sleep at night!?!

There is a CHF 500 reward for any information leading to the killer. I will gladly match that to have 2 minutes alone with them

Because they think it's cool/clever/funny/makes them a big man/woman, etc, etc. All it really does is show that they're sick psychos who don't deserve to live.

Human beings can be the most despicable, horrible, disgusting animals on earth. No other species in the world does the things we do to ourselves and others.

Re: Kittens beheaded...!!!

How anyone can inflict cruelty on a innocent animal is beyond belief. I did not open the link as I am sure many of us will not.
Where does this cruelty come from and what makes someone do this.

Isn't there a connection between animal cruelty and psychopathy?

They do say that serial killers start small with animals and then move on to humans.

Sickos all of them.

Indeed, and child abuse too (no excuse though). Some people beheaded a swan in Neuch last year- not with a sword, but by pulling- which must have been long and extemely painful! and required at least 3 people.

It makes me sick inside to read such things. I only hope this person is caught and sentenced with the full strength of Swiss laws. Karma could also play a role too IMHO.

The "full strength of Swiss laws" in this case is not much.
After all (AFAIK) a cat is just a "thing". It's not a person.
Such a crime is treated a bit like smashing a window.

Sadly this is all too often the case, with punishments a slap on the wrist. While animal protection law on the books is better here than in many countries, one wonders if the mild consequences often meted out are sufficient to act as a deterrent.

For instance, from the Tierschutzstraffaelle database on the Tier Im Recht website there is an entry where it was found that a dog was willfully killed in an abusive manner. A fine of all of CHF 800 was levied.

The laws on the books are a good start, but I'd like to see some real teeth added to the consequences. (I suppose that the same could apply to many aspects of Swiss law... But that is another discussion.)

The database makes for interesting reading, by the way:

Re: Kittens beheaded...!!!

And a bit of pedantry:

In 2003 the law changed so that animals are no longer considered 'things' in the legal sense. You likely have heard the sound bite 'Tiere sind keine Sache'. But this does not go as far as many might think it does.

Animals are recognized not as things, but as animals. That distinction offers some more protection than previously, but there are still significant limits.

A good explanation, again from Tier Im Recht:

http://www.tierimrecht.org/de/tiersc...e_Sache_II.php

And more from Zuercher Tierschutz:
