Dwarf hamster vet bill, cost?

Hello, my dwarf hamster is sick. We have an appointment at a vet clinic tomorrow. I hope something can be done. From what I've read and saw I think it's warts. I hope I cought it in time for treatment.

Does anyone know how much check up and treatment in canton Zürich cost? Just a general idea would be welcome.

Have a nice day!

Re: Dwarf hamster vet bill, cost?

Personally, I'd buy a snake.

Re: Dwarf hamster vet bill, cost?

Not the best idea Tom. I will just get attached to the snake and when it gets old/sick, we will have to do this all over again

In case someone can use this information. I'm sure the prices vary but here it goes.
General hamster check-up: 45chf
Procedure: anesthesia + cauterization: 55chf
Sample analysis: 110chf

Take care!

Re: Dwarf hamster vet bill, cost?

seems like this is a bit of a first world problem

edit: also take into account that the average life span is 2-3 years. could it be that the hamster is just old.

When the snake gets sick, move up the food chain and buy a pet mongoose.

Mine never did, though it did go on a six-month hunger strike once.

crikey that seems very pricey for a hamster.

Is Hammy ok though?

Re: Dwarf hamster vet bill, cost?

@Darcy She's doing well, thank you for asking. And yeah I know, it's almost like that $$$ register sound in cartoons. But even in a country where I used to live, vets are expensive. Even though everything else is 3-times cheaper compared to Switzerland. It's just something you have to consider, when you are buying/adopting a pet.

@k_and_e Yes, she is not young. But as long as she has a good hamster life: drinks, eats, runs around, is active, responsive, friendly etc., I will try to do what I can for her.

@Today only You can get dogs, cats, hamsters or even horses for free. But as far as I'm considered, animals are not things and are not exchangeable. Ever owned a pet? If you have a dog, your dog is not like any other dog. But to your neighbor the dog might seem like any other ugly mutt. Perhaps you can understand that.

To everything else. I didn't want to get into this, because it's a question of values. But here we go: I don't believe things, animals or even people have a value on their own. Their value depends on how much time, energy, affection, knowledge, patience ... you've put into them. And how much happiness, pleasure, joy they brought you. If I had to choose between helping my friend or helping my hamster, that wouldn't really be a choice. But since all my family&friends are doing well, my furry creature comes before new clothes or a pack of cigarettes. I feel kind of strange explaining that.

Some people like to buy new furniture, new car seats, jewelry, clothes ... Some people spent their time on their phone and computer. Some people kill rodents on sight, others have a pet spider. I had an acquaintance who decided to put a 3 year old cat to sleep, because that was less expensive than treating her broken leg. Luckily the vet didn't want to do that and the cat got re-homed.

I like furry creatures. And if you get a pet, you've made a commitment to take care of them as best as you can and you try to give them a good life. That's just how it goes.

Ahh I'm glad she is doing ok! And I think no matter how tiny a pet is,they are worth saving and treated like a family member. Vet bills are crazy over here but you take that on
board with pet ownership. We have just paid off 2,500 chf bill for a kidney stone operation for our little dog. But she is so much happier and that is worth every chf.

Hope Hammy stays well now.Such a worry when they are poorly.
