New voluntary dog training program

Hello dear EFers!

I wanted to share some news with you. The VKAS is an organization that developed a new training program called NHB, Nationales Hundehalter Brevet National Dog Owner Brevet.

This program is N O T mandatory, but offers valuable things you might be interested in.

1) Theory Class: 4 hours of information about what to do before getting a dog, and how to be a canine good citizen in Switzerland, diploma for participation, costs self-determined by trainer.
2) Practical Course: 10 x 60 minutes. Learn how to lead, train, and care for your pup safely, diploma for participation, costs self-determined by trainer.
3) Theory examination, multiple choice, costs according to VKAS CHF 90.
4) Practical examination, costs according to VKAS CHF 120.
5) Brevet card, after passing the examination, costs according to VKAS CHF 30.

If you think you know it all , and like challenges you may take the examination without visiting the class/course. If you think you just need a refresher on lets say loose leash walking , you only visit that specific module.

Goal is to prepare fist time dog owners for their responsibilities they will have by becoming a dog owner, and to reward all of you for your canine spirit by putting all you effort into training your dogs .

The class/course may only be offered by VKAS NHB experts who will be listed on the websites of its members, and perhaps on the VKAS website eventually.

Re: New voluntary dog training program

Absolutely brilliant!

I am so very happy to see this.

Cherrytree, do you know if there will be options to take the course and/or exam in English or other non-Swiss languages? From reading many posts here on EF, fears over language inadequacy seems to be a large barrier to getting newly arrived dog owners into classes... And these are folks who truly need something like the NHB.

Great initiative!

(Toodling off to learn more....)

It is available in German, French and Italian, and as it happens I am licensed to offer it in English

Re: New voluntary dog training program

Glad to hear it.

Perhaps this thread should be made into a sticky, so that we can more easily direct new posters to it. It will take a while before the NHB works it's way into collective Pet Corner consciousness, making this thread easily visible will help.

(What say you, Mods?)

It would be good to have a 'one stop' thread for NHB questions and discussions.

Re: New voluntary dog training program

Hi, thank you very much for this good information!

We are considering to take a dog in a 6 month or a year. I am really interesting in English speaking preparation course. I didn't find on the web site any information about it. Could you please write me more details?

Thank you in advance!

Dear #CherryTree2014!

Thank you for this information! It is really interesting, I have never know about such a course.
We thinking about having a dog in a 6 month or a year. So now I am really interesting about preparation courses. Could you tell me please more details about this training? Could I pass full training in English? Is it a class training or individual lessons? What is the price?

Thank you in advance

Hello Alenka,

I am not sure if I am allowed to post a link, as it might be referred to as advertisement.

So here is the link to the Swiss website from VKAS - which I am not related to: https://www.verband-kynologie-ausbil...nhb/index.html

And this is the link to the information in English - my website: https://hilsbos.ch/about/mandatory-c...ctical-course/

If this post should be deleted, simply send me a private message.

I hope it helps, have a great day!
