| | Dog food and general dog advice in Luzern
Hello there!
I am moving to Luzern soon with my little 6 month old lab-collie mixed puppy and i am a little concerned about finding some specific food for her!
She eats Orijen foods, puppy large breed. It's the best food i found after doing a loooad of research before we got her and i would like to continue giving it to her so i was hoping someone could tell me where i could find it in Luzern?
Also, does anybody know any dog-daycare centres in Luzern? Or a dogsitter? I have a full time job and here in Sweden it is easy to find doggy daycare centres but how about Luzern?
Thanks for all the answers, thing is i do not speak german at all so i am a little lost...my fiancee will help but if we can get links or adresses that'd be awesome |

To get you started, here are two shops from whom you can order Orijen and have it delivered to you...
(I don't know anything about either distributor, I simply googled Orijen + Hundefutter... ) Caveat emptor, and all that. http://www.natura-tiershop.ch/ http://www.editrust.ch/hunde/hundefu...ken/orijen.asp |

We also get our 'canine daughter' the food that we think is the highest quality from the US...Solid Gold. They have a distributor in CH and a website with a few other brands and many products for pets. Have a look: http://www.solidgoldswiss.ch/
We are very happy with their service. But interested in hearing about any good foods for pets.

Thanks again for the answers! Now i am a little more concerned about the dogwalkers and finding a dog daycare or dog hotel. I dont know german and the dictionaries are not working very well for me but maybe someone could help me find the right word in german for "dog walker" "dog daycare" so i can google it and see what i find?
In Luzern as usual!
thanks a million!

You could try dogsitter or Google Hundebetreuung Luzern and see if anything useful comes up. Dog sitter in Luzern is another possibility. You might get more answers from folk who have dogs and live near the city.
Happy hunting! Hope you find something suitable.

In the US, we used to feed Lily timberwolf organics, which apparently you can get from http://www.bigdog24.de, sometimes. The import and delivery costs were outrageous last year, I had to buy huge bags (which I hate) and then they couldn't get it for months anyway. ....so I looked for something local. Now we feed Lily biomill premium, and you can buy that all over the place. I also like to buy small bags, so it's easier for me. She seems to be doing really well on it too. Lots of energy, good coat etc etc.

Hi there and woof to the 4-legged friends,
I'm staying here in Luzern with my boyfriend for 3 months at a time then back to the states for 3 weeks then back to Luzern for 3 more months etc. I don't work so most days I'm free. I'm definitely interested in dog walking if your still looking. I have 2 great danes in the states and miss them terribly along w/ the walks and fun times that go along w/ being around dogs. You can pm me if interested. Talk soon, Heather

Hello Delfinita and welcome to Luzern!
I'll second Meloncollie's reference of natura-tiershop with online ordering, haven't tried it yet but it was also what I found when looking for quality food for our 6 yrs old Labrador.
Unfortunately no advice on dogsitting but will gladly offer a playmate when you think your youngster will be up for some socializing with an older but still very playful lab, feel free to pm me if and when you are interested

What brand would you say is the equivalent here in Switzerland? Please, any help you can give would be much appreciated. Thanks for any and all help |

I'd say to bring a good size bag with you (if you can) just in case as the change from one food to another usually is best done gradually.
I've seen my mother-in-law bring home Purina One for her cats though, perhaps she's gotten it at Markauf at the Rhine Center over the border.

| | Dog Food... which Swiss brand is best? Our dog will be arriving in Switzerland from the USA on Wednesday. Needless to say, we are very excited. However, I have a problem. I have no idea what brand of dog food to get for our pet. In the USA I always bought Purina One. It is a great quality food that can be purchased at any grocery store. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any help or advice. Thanks,
Blair

Hi Blair,
I would suggest that you go to any pet store in Basel and they can give you advice on the best dog food to buy for you dog. They sell similar U.S. brands like Royal Canine, Science Diet, etc. as well as organic/natural dog foods. There is really no worries because they sell even better dog food in Switzerland than in the U.S.
Below is the Address for the Qualipet in Basel.
Küchengasse 16
4051 Basel, Switzerland
061 279 92 20
Good Luck!

I can recommend Editrust for dog food, I order from them all of the time. I used to import from Germany but it was kept at the border a bunch of times so I gave up. I used to order the Solid Gold (from the same site above) but the owner stopped getting it for awhile so we switched.
If you really believe that Purina is a high quality dog food, please do some more research by visiting www.dogfoodanalysis.com, you might change your mind.
