Animal shelter recommendation

I would like to give away a few items, such as a cat tree, a cat/dog bed etc to an animal charity/shelter in or around Zurich.

Any recommendation? Thanks!

Re: Animal shelter recommendation

How kind!

Most shelters would be very grateful for your donations.

One in Zürich I have had personal experience with is Tierheim Surber. Here is their general 'Sachspenden' list:
https://www.tierheim-surber.ch/ihre-...g/sachspenden/

If you have things to donate not on their list, send a quick email or call to ask if they can use your items.

(Heffalump came from Tierheim Surber - they are a private Tierheim helping both cats and dogs.)

Alternatively, ask your local vet practice if they can use any of your items (many vets are active in Tierschutz), or if they recommend a particular Tierheim.

Re: Animal shelter recommendation

Another possibility if you still have your items, or if anyone else is interested, might be Ein Herz for Handicap Katzen:
https://www.handicapcats.ch

This is not a Tierheim, but rather a group that supports Tierheime and private people who have a handicapped cat in need of a home . The animals - blind, deaf, amputees, other illnesses - are listed here to gain wider notice across Switzerland.

So while they themselves might not be able to take material donations, they might know of foster homes or other Tierheim in need.

Bringing this up, as this is a niche that truly deserves support.

Thank you Meloncollie, since the first place isn't eager to come and pick up the items, I am glad to have another place to ask,if needed!

Re: Animal shelter recommendation

Here's a list (not wholly inclusive AFAIK) of Tierheime in canton ZH:

http://www.tierheime.ch/tierheime/zuerich/index.html

For Tierheime in other cantons, click on the left hand link.

---

I've been doing a bit of browsing, and it seems that many Swiss Tierheime cannot take donated materials at this time, or can only take limited amounts or certain kinds of things. (It's the same issue as with trying to donate 'people stuff' to charities here - limited storage space, huge staff costs of trying to sort and transport goods in Hochpreisinsel Schweiz.)

But nonetheless, do go through the lists, there must be a group in need and happy to have your kind donation.

---

I'll keep an ear out and let you know if I hear of other possibilities.

ETA:

If you find a group in need of your donation but you can't travel to wherever they are, perhaps make a separate post asking for help delivering your things to the Tierheim. There are likely some animal-loving Zürich EFers who might be willing to lend a hand.

Re: Animal shelter recommendation

the Suzy Utzinger Stiftung might also be a place to donate any kind of animal products. Early Sept they usually also do a drive together with Qualipet so you can bring all the items to your nearest Qualipet.

Netap also has a list of items on their website which they will gladly take.

well ... the "driving" part is my problem.
For small items, no problems, I can bring them myself.

Thank you fo the info!
