Imigrating with a Bull-Terrier

Hi all, maybe I missed it, but I could not find a threat that answered my upcoming question regarding Bull-Terriers.

We will me moving permanently to Switzerland. We currently live in South Africa. I know about the Cantonal BSL. We will live in one of the Cantons where our boy is accepted and if I have to commute to work, or rent a small apartment close to work, I will (If I end up working in Zurich or Basel).

I have read (on a pet relocation site) that you cannot relocate to Switzerland with a Bull-Terrier? But having read some threads here, it seems I can? Please can someone help with proper advice. As I stated, we will respect the Cantonal BSL and will find a home in St Gallen or Zug etc so that my boy can live there.

He is a standard Bull-Terrier.

Thank you in advance.

You need to get in contact with forum member, meloncollie, for advice the latest info links. What that lady doesn't know about dog related legislation, you could fit on the back of a stamp. Hopefully, she will see your post and respond when she has a moment. Just as an example...

Ummm, I think that you may have missed some recent media posts
There are some really lovely French bulldogs on EF that might be able to answer though.

Heidi, over to you

Re: Imigrating with a Bull-Terrier

Welcome to the forum.

What you read probably refers to the importation of cropped and docked dogs.

"Cropping of the ears means clipping the ear to a given shape. It has been banned since 1 July 1981. Docking of the tail means shortening the tail by removing caudal vertebrae together with surrounding soft tissue. It has been banned since 1 July 1997. The importing of cropped or docked dogs is also prohibited.

1. Is it actually still possible to bring cropped or docked dogs into Switzerland?

Cropped or docked dogs may not be imported into Switzerland. Such dogs are therefore turned back at the border. However, owners resident abroad may bring their cropped or docked dogs into Switzerland for holidays or other short stays, and anyone moving to Switzerland from abroad may bring such dogs with them. Ask the customs office whether your case meets the criteria in good time before moving, to ensure that your dog is considered part of your “household effects” (http://www.ezv.admin.ch). The dog must not be advertised, sold or given away, or exhibited at a show in Switzerland."

See the link at the bottom of this page for the full info.

https://www.blv.admin.ch/blv/en/home...frettchen.html

Use this link to see what you need to do to be able to bring your dog with you.

https://www.blv.admin.ch/blv/en/home...frettchen.html

Bear in mind that it's sometimes difficult to find accommodation that allows dogs and may be even more so with that breed.

Check with the cantonal veterinary office where you will be living about any special requirements they may have.

Thank you.
No problem and greetings to Sandton, sorry, take that back, see that you are next to the coast.
You may have missed the bit about Homo Sapiens not being allowed into the county, and no, I will still not store any of your gold bars on my Swiss account (generically implied)

Apologies, Corona isolation just bringing-up old memories

Heidi must be around here somewhere
