Dog - joint supplements

Could anyone recommend any good joint supplements for dogs with arthritis/dysplasia (easily available in Switzerland) please. Links appreciated.

My dogs elbow dysplasia returned 2 years after surgery

Re: Dog - joint supplements

Have you tried a small amount of Turmeric. I have friends who swear by it for their dog who is severely arthritic. It contains curcumin that is anti inflammatory.

Lots of people use it for that reason for their dogs and it is considered safe.
They sprinkle some on their dogs meal and I can actually vouch for its properties as I do take it myself for joint issues.

Might be worth investigating

Re: Dog - joint supplements

I'm sorry to hear about your pup.

Two joint supplements I have used, both readily available here are

Doil's l, an omega 3 supplement:
https://shop.marigin.ch/products/doils-joint

YuMove:
https://yumove.co.uk
Link is the UK site, but it's available here from most vets.

ETA:

Just found Lintbells (the maker of YuMove products) Switzerland. No personal experience with this site, however:

Did either of these work? I think they helped a bit, but honestly can't say more than that.

I'd suggest speaking to your vet, see what he or she recommends.

---

Is your vet considering drugs or other medical treatment?

---

Sending all sorts of good wishes for your doglet.

Re: Dog - joint supplements

Hes on Rimadyl for 10 days. Vet said only other real option in steroid injection into joint if it gets bad.... but that can destroy the cartilage (which seems pointless to me, replacing one problem with another).

This is some years ago, so my memory is a tad hazy... We tried Anarthron injections with the Belltie and I do think they helped.

Anarthron is Cartrophen in the US/UK by the way. (Not to confuse Cartrophen with Carprofen, which is Rimadyl.)

This is a series of 4 injections, subcutaneous IIRC, so it sounds like something different than what your vet has discussed.

I don't know if Anarthron is used when the cause is ED, that would be something to speak to the vet about.

Here's the VetPharm entry:
https://www.vetpharm.uzh.ch/TAK/06000000/00062096.01

Also, there are several different meds used to counter arthritis pain - you might find that one is more effective or better tolerated than another. Throughout many years and many dogs I've used Rimadyl, Metacam, Onsior, Previcox, Minalgin - sometimes a dog didn't respond to one but did well on another. It's often a rather frustrating case of trial and error to find the right med.

More cyber hugs for your pooch.

Re: Dog - joint supplements

My Vet swears by a joint supplement called "Dasuquin" and I have given it to my now 10-year old lab, ever since she tore her (dog equivalent) ACL joint 5 years ago.

Just checked and this online retailer appears to have the best price at the moment:
