| | Dog Tax Demand
I got a dog tax demand last week that seems a bit off.
On the face of it, it looks authentic, but there are some details that I find odd.
There is a paper all about new QR codes. It has one. I tried it and far from helping me pay the bill it just went to google maps?
I logged into the bank and started to pay it, and the bank tells me I never made a payment to these people before, which seems crazy... had a dog for 5 years.
Called the tax office, no answer. Send them an email. Ignored me.
On the plus side it has my tax reference on it? Is it authentic? Comes from the department calling itself SAGEFI which I can find on the internet? Looks real?

Hi, I just got one myself for the first time with QR code.
Reference is SAGEFI, it came from the Vaud tax authorities in the same envelope as as confirmation that I don't owe any income tax (I requested that).
It has the normal Canton letter headings etc and looks like the "dog-bill" for every other year, just now with a QR code instead of an Orange slip.
I am sure what I got at least is genuine, haven't tried to see if it works though...

Call your Gemeinde animal control, or Einwohnerkontrol if there isn't an animal control person in your village, to verify. In my village it's Einwohnerkontrol, not the Steueramt, that sends the bill.
Did you just recently get your dog?
Around here, dog tax bills are issued at the beginning of the year (ish). The only time a bill is issued mid year is if the dog is acquired mid year.
But every Gemeinde does things a bit differently, so call and verify.

You need to scan the QR using a bank's e-banking app or web-site. Scanning it with just your phone camera will take you to maps and the address of the payeé.

Tom | | | | | And you can't pay a QR code bill by typing in the data as you would a pink or orange slip.
I know I tried because the QR code wouldn't scan on my PC's camera. They work best using a phone, which is counter-intuitive.
