Lecture & Seminar, 'Wolf und Herdenschutzhunde'

FYI for those interested in wolves and the growing use of livestock guardian dogs to protect sheep herds:

Monty Sloan, a respected wolf researcher and photographer from Wolf Park in the US , will be giving a lecture at the Zürich Volkeshaus on Thursday 4 November at 19:30. Entry is free, and it looks like you don't need to reserve - although his last lecture here was quite popular, so perhaps one should call to double check.

The lecture will be in English.

See the flyer:

There will be a follow-on seminar on the all sorts of aspects of wolf population management and the use of livestock guardian dogs as herd protection, on 6 and 7 November, at the Jugend und Bildungszentrum in Einsiedeln.

The seminar runs for two days, from -09:00 to 18:00. Cost is CHF 260 (160 for students and apprentices). It is possible to book for only one of the days. Reservation needed.

Marty Sloan is a fascinating man, his lectures are well worth attending.

Given the recent news of the hunter who shot a livestock guardian llama mistaking it for a deer, I thought this might be of interest to some of you. The use of guardian animals in herd protection is growing, and a better understanding by the general population as to how we can both protect herds and conserve wolf populations in our shared open spaces is IMO needed.

The lecture in Zürich and seminar in Einsiedeln are sponsored by CHWolf:

And an FYI: If you are ever in the US midwest, Wolf Park, a well known research, conservation, and education center, is well worth visiting. Wolf Park is in Battle Ground Indiana, which is not far from Lafayette.

ETA with a correction.

The title of the lecture and seminar is 'Wölfe und Herdenschutz', not Herdenschutzhunde.

Y'all know me, everything is about dogs, I was typing on autopilot.

Except in this case, Herdenschutzhunde will indeed be discussed, as a subset of the broader topic of Herdenschutz.

Booked in my agenda! The theme is a growing topic, also for the lynx here in Switzerland:
