Oh god he's dead. The daycare found him. I don't know what to do, where do I take him.

Oh Janer, I am so sorry. What a state you must be in. As suggested, call the Gemeinde and they will help you. But I am sure you can also call your vet.

NOOOOOOOOO! I'm so sorry for your loss, JanerMacP. As a cat mommy myself, I know the heartbreak and grief can be almost unbearable. I lost two previous cats to illness and a third was hit by a car. So I'm very protective of my current cat and she's not allowed outside unless she's leashed.

May your little guy rest in peace. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers {{{{{{Hugs}}}}}}

I suppose it is impossible to prevent an indoor cat from escaping no matter how how you try. Where my sister lives there is a leash law for all cats....her cat is also an indoor cat also so the only way he goes outside is on a leash.

Re: My cat is missing - who can I call?

I'm so sorry about your cat. I've had the experience many times. It is very hard when they disappear, so out of charachter, but they do that when they know they are ill and it's hard for us but they need to be alone.

Oh Janer, I'm so very sorry.

As others have suggested, call your vet, or the Gemeinde.

My vet discussed several options available, and then arranged everything for me. My guys were all cremated at the Tierkrematorium Schafisheim; I've spoken to the folks at Schafisheim several times - they are very caring.

My heart goes out to you, and to your family.

Re: My cat is missing - who can I call?

Sorry to read the bad news :-(

As a cat owner this is really my worst nightmare, I'm quite paranoid and won't let mine go out (we live pretty close from a highway entrance).

Re: My cat is missing - who can I call?

Thanks everyone. He will be cremated and his ashes will be spread in the woods.

It's heart-breaking, he was such a sweet cat.

For all of you who own pets, give them extra hugs when you see them next. My poor dog is so confused, she's going to be lonely.

I know it must be confusing for your dog, and the worst part is that she won`t understand where your cat is (her friend), and you can`t explain it to her

I will give the rats a cuddle as soon as they wake up.

This is a real risk, especially for a dog. Whenever one of our cats or dogs have died we've always made a point of letting the others come and sniff the body for a while in a quiet place. They seem to get the message that something permanent has happened. It doesn't in any way mean they won't go on to experience loss or separation anxiety but I think it does help with the confusion of the sudden separation.

Re: My cat is missing - who can I call?

Well, thankfully, for the past six and a half years, my prevention efforts have been successful {*knocks wood*}. But, hey, you never know, one can't be too careful. She has ventured out into the hallway a couple of times, but never unsupervised. Otherwise, she's only allowed on the balcony and always on a leash.

I do recall when one of my previous cats was ill, she managed to muster up enough strength to slip out (she was an indoor-outdoor cat anyway) and we found her dead a day later in the field across from our house One of my mother's friends who had a lot of experience with cats said she probably knew this was the end and went off to die alone. Janer's cat may have done the same

Hi Sweetie,

Thanks so much. It was a long time ago, 26 years, in fact. The one before her died of cancer, which was even worse because she was sick for months and we finally had her put to sleep. Another one I had got hit by a car. I was too heartbroken for years afterward to get another cat, but I broke down six and a half years ago and adopted the one I have now.

Re: My cat is missing - who can I call?

I have only just seen this and wanted to post to say how sorry I am for your loss.
I have also lost many pets over the years and still cry for all of them at various times.

I think having your cat cremated and scattering the ashes somewhere meaningful is a lovely idea.

Oh Janer, I am so sorry. The first thing I did when I got to work this morning was search through the new posts for your post to see if there was any good news to hear. I am truly gutted for you It's amazing how these gorgeous animals become part of our family to the point where you consider them to be your babies.

Sweet dreams kitty XX

I am so sorry for you Janet. I lost my beloved Susie (shown in my avatar) last August, and it was a very tough time. Give your dog plenty of hugs - beneficial for both of you.
