| | Calling all Staffie lovers!! (Staffordshire Bull Terrier) (Other dogs also welcome!)
Hi, South African born and raised. You can see more on my profile. We (Fiancé and I) are looking for fellow Staffie people (South Africans, Brits and anyone who likes Staffie's) to go and let our dogs play or walk.
Still amazed to this day how badly so many people react to Staffie's here in Switz, tell any Safa or Brit, they are dangerous, and they will tell you; you are crazy!!
I agree, stop the prejudice, get the dogs off the leashes and out of the muzzles(yes, i know, a muzzle, terrible isn't it!) and playing in the fields!
All welcome, just drop a line!! |

Staffies are wonderful dogs, Roostermike.
Don't have one myself, but all the staffies I know are happy friendly waggly-tailed (or waggly-bodied, in that special staffie way ) cuddle monsters. Loyal to the Nth degree, fantastic sense of humor. And contrary to the popular stereotype, the people I know who have listed breeds are some of the most responsible dog owners I've ever met - their dogs are well trained and well socialized. (Better than mine, I'll admit. )
This is why BSL is so unfair; our politicians, most of whom know nothing about dogs, played to a media-fueled prejudice and rushed badly thought out legislation into place - and many well behaved dogs who have never put a paw wrong suffer. BSL is just plain wrong, and all dog owners - of any breed or mix - should do whatever we can to fight this kind of thinking.
What really upsets me is that the Tierschutzverein has largely ignored the cantonal BSL muzzling and lead restrictions - yet the new federal animal protection law specifically promotes off lead exercise as essential to a dog's well being. I hope the disparity between the cantonal and federal legislation might be addressed at some point.
FYI, I believe owners of listed breeds in ZH can still take a Verhaltungstest to obtain permission to free your dog from the muzzle and lead restriction - info here: http://www.ssbtc.ch/maulkorbzwang.html
While out with my mutts I regularly see a few staffies from ZH - there is no BSL in SZ and ZG , so several owners of dogs listed in ZH come out this way to give their dogs a chance to run and play.
Of course this thread is useless without pictures. Nothing like a big staffie smile to brighten the day.

I agree with evreything you say Roostermike and meloncollie about Staffs....My sister and 2 brothers have 4 staffies between them and they are so loving and loyal and full of fun....It such a shame they can have this reputation of been scarey monsters instead of cuddly monsters, which they so are.. |

I grew up with Staffies and I agree that they get an awful press now. They are such a wonderful family dog and Rory the last one I had was fantastic with my children.
When I was a baby my parents always told me the story of how when their Staffie Judy was elderly we were all in the garden when she got out of her bed, came over to where I was playing on a blanket, licked me and then went back to her basket & passed away.
It is really sad how many are looking to be rehomed | This user would like to thank smackerjack for this useful post:

I know these are not staffys, but i thought it would make the E.F Animal lovers smile ...No they did not eat the bone..It was an Easter present for the huge Dog that lives next door to us. We thought it would make Erins (the shihtzus) owners smile as they were away in the States at the time..... | The following 2 users would like to thank merseygirl for this useful post:

We adopted a Staffie X when she was 12yrs and she retired with us to Switzerland, and I know we all think ours dogs are the best!!!! but she was so gentle and sweet and we loved her very much. It's been 13 months since she went to doggie heaven and we miss her still.

Unless he was undercover for the police, an animal protection group or armed to the teeth to shoot the barstewards no self-respecting animal lover would be seen dead at such a horrific and cruel event.

I guess you are referring to "organised dog fights", when you say those. No I haven't. I have seen and had to break up dogs fighting though, but thats just normal. Although, back in SA, I did see the results of organised dog fights at the SPCA, which are absolutely horrific.
I grew up with dogs (Had 2 Bull Mastiff/Rhodesion ridgebacks back in SA), so I have never had a fear for dogs, whether they are poodles or pits..
Why do you ask?

oh is that so. I for example, am very familiar with quite a few things and I usually know both sides of it, the good lovely useful side of it and also the ugly, misused, misunderstood side of it. just the way I function and operate.
so I am just asking a question, the person can answer it or leave it. | Quote: | | | | | Sada that has to be the daftest question you could ever ask a Staffie lover. Well I consider myself chastised then. I can't stand reports and pictures about battered babies/children. Maybe I should ask a few batterers why they do it!
