Weimaraner or large dog owners... Volketswil/Greifensee region

Hi,

Anyone out there has a weimaraner or an energetic dog (but with a teddy bear heart)? I have a 4 year old weim, Congo, and will be moving to Volketswil next month. Would love to make some EF friends there, possibly with a dog such that we could take them out to exercise, run or swim together.

Only friendly dogs please

Hope to hear from you...

I have 2 Weimeraners - 2 females in fact (Scharnhorst and Gneisnau) both 3 and 2 respectively.

I'm hoping to bring them over from the UK to the Basle area (German border area) in a few months.

Hey hello

Woooow. Are you getting 2 weims and 4 dalmations with you to Switz? That is very admirable. It took me a while to find a auitable apartment for my bundle of energy but finally found one with a garden that takes dogs.

Just to try and be helpful, let me tell you that if your Weims have a docked tail, you might experience some problems getting them in the country, nothing which can't be dealt with. Mine was given to me when he was 4 weeks old and already had a docked tail. i had to get a vet certificate about why he has a docked tail (that is is common practice in my country...even if I don't agree with it) and that he has been like that since the first day I had him. Of course it is stupid to give a dog away only cos someone cut his tail off.

Also, there are regulations about the size of the boxes they will travel in. They have to be the ones which the EU stipulates. They can be bought from many pet shops, must have a water supply at all times, one dog per case and it must be large enough for them to turn around in and lie down comfortably... (yes, the box for a weim is quite large).

I have not seen many weims here in switzerland but people love dogs and they will love your weims too I am sure

If you need any help, let me know and I am more than willing. You an PM me if you wish. See you in Switz soon then,

Sarah

Thanks Sarah, I live in an apartment in Basle as i work at Novartis the Pharmaceutical company but i'm waiting for confirmation that my contract is extended and then i will give up the lease on the apartment and move across the border to Germany in the Freiburg/Lorrach region purely because i can have a large house with a garden and it is so much cheaper to rent and of course the Black Forest is not far.. My problem is that with 6 dogs i need somewhere secure to put them all when i go to work normally in the UK. As i work 200KM away in London (i live in a rural area with a 2 hectare garden) the dogs go to boarding kennels for 5 days which costs me about 1000Euros a month. As i miss them a lot whilst here in Switzerland i get home to see them every 2 weeks. So at the moment i'm waiting to see what happens with my contract to decide if i can bring all 6 or pick 3 good dogs. I would probably bring them all over by airfreight as my husband's company owns a animal freight company transporting horses, dogs, pets etc.
Crufts in the UK have banned docking of Weimeraners 2 years ago. You may know that Crufts is one of the largest dog shows in the world and all weimies now have long tails. If i went to Germany to live with them i don't see it problem i guess it should be okay. Apparently they were docked because their tails are very thin and prone to breaking the bone. I would love a weimie with a tail as it is funny seeing my 2 wag their tails.
Weimies and dalmations complement each other as they are full of energy but weimies are far more intelligent and more dominant. Of course i love all of them.
