In our commune as well. Private fireworks were banned this year. I saw lots of people bringing them but not setting them off

We stayed in and watched natures firework display. Much more impressive than a few bangers and rockets lol.

Happy Yorkshire day to all!
Cat sitting for neighbours (as usual), hope all is well with your cats, as this young booger has not a care in the world and keeps bringing dead mice in.

So fireworks started in the afternoon here, and Lily just ignored them. So they continued throughout the evening, and she ignored them still.
Around 1 am it got very loud. Then she started to bark and run around. Poor pup. So we went to the cellar, but she was wired and we were up and down till 4am.
So, tonight, cellar earlier.
Really? 1am? Shitheads. Meh. And, since it‘s almost the weekend....this crap will likely continue throughout.
This gets old.
Hang on to your pets.

An interesting article from the 20Minuten: https://www.20min.ch/schweiz/news/st...rwerk-21812514
In response to a tragedy over Silvester where a dog ran away in panic over the fireworks and was sadly never found, the owner of a Hundepension in Grabs SG gave out GPS trackers - gratis - to help others prevent similar tragedies.
Nice to see folks who care.
---
Which brings us to the annual PSA for dog owners who have not yet experienced the fun of the war zone that many neighborhoods turn into on 1 August:
When you take your dog out, do so only on lead. And keep a very firm hold of said lead. All day long. Every year terrified dogs break loose and run away in a blind panic. Some, like the poor dog in the article above, never make it home. Do whatever you can to keep yours from becoming a statistic.
---
ETA:
The comments section to the 20Min article is depressing. An insight into the mindset of the many dog haters here.

It was very quiet here all day. Only once it got dark did the noise begin. Luckily our dog isn't too bothered. We watched a movie and he went off to sleep.
In the past we struggled and found thunder shirts to be helpful.
Today it is all quiet.

Well, it wasn't too bad.
The fireworks went on all day, but it wasn't as intense from 20:00 to midnight as in previous years. Thank heavens for small mercies.
Heffalump, as expected, went into total shut down mode, hid in the cellar and refused to come out. Fortunately I was able to get him outside around 18:00, so his poor bladder 'only' had to make it 12 hours. He's still uneasy today, and any unexpected sound outside sends him running back into the cellar in panic. It usually takes him a few quiet days to recover.
Hooligan is completely deaf now. She could't hear a thing so she remained cool as a cucumber. And it seemed that the fireworks the neighbors set off were mostly loud but didn't light up much. It's the flashing lights that pose more of a danger as a seizure trigger, so another small mercy.
Robin Goodfellow was uneasy and clearly unsure as to how to react. But with poor Heffalump in the cellar his only example was Hooligan, fast asleep. Robin wasn't a happy bunny, not by a long shot, but thanks to Hooligan he coped. Spent the night glued to us, under the covers.
So not too bad a day. I just hope the weekend remains quiet.
Hope all your furry friends are OK.

In case it's escaped anyone's attention, supermarkets are closed tomorrow.

So, my asshat neighbors are warming up for tomorrow with the fireworks. The good thing is that my elderly dog seems tobe much less reactive. Nevertheless, we‘ll keep a close watch on her over the weekend.
